Exhibiting in Atlanta: what to know
What we check for every Atlanta show, with sources. We handle all of it as part of the all-in price.
How drayage is billed
Drayage (material handling) is billed per hundredweight (cwt = 100 lb), rounded up to the next 100 lb, usually with a 200 lb (2 cwt) minimum per shipment; it covers moving freight from dock or warehouse to the booth, storing empty crates, and returning it to the dock after the show. Cost = rate x (weight / 100). Special handling (uncrated, loose, ground unload) and overtime cost more; late arrivals after the warehouse deadline get a surcharge. Some contractors (Freeman, GES Material Handling+) now bill per pound instead of per cwt.
Labor rules
- Georgia is a right-to-work state; exhibitor staff may set up their own booth at most GWCC shows (source 1, 2)
- GPFS Expo 2024 at GWCC: full-time employees may set up the exhibit with tools, plug in equipment after electricians deliver power, and bring materials in on hand carts or 2-wheel dollies during set-up source
- GES work rules for GWCC shows: dock-to-booth delivery and reloading of all display material must be done by the official service contractor source
- Hiring an outside exhibitor-appointed contractor (EAC) requires the exhibitor to file a notice of intent source
Drayage (moving your freight to the booth)
- MODEX 2020 at GWCC (GES): optional freight package $6.85/sq ft; warehouse shipments +$15.00/cwt; package excluded special handling, uncrated, overtime and off-target surcharges source
- International Production & Processing Expo 2024 at GWCC (GES): package $2.70/sq ft; warehouse surcharge $15.85/cwt source
Shipping deadlines
- GES packages at GWCC charge an extra per-cwt surcharge for advance-warehouse shipments versus direct to show (source 5, 6)
Electrical and utilities
- Edlen has been GWCC's exclusive provider of electrical, plumbing, compressed air and cable since July 2021 source
