Exhibiting in Denver: what to know

What we check for every Denver show, with sources. We handle all of it as part of the all-in price.

How drayage is billed

Drayage (material handling) is billed per hundredweight (cwt = 100 lb), rounded up to the next 100 lb, usually with a 200 lb (2 cwt) minimum per shipment; it covers moving freight from dock or warehouse to the booth, storing empty crates, and returning it to the dock after the show. Cost = rate x (weight / 100). Special handling (uncrated, loose, ground unload) and overtime cost more; late arrivals after the warehouse deadline get a surcharge. Some contractors (Freeman, GES Material Handling+) now bill per pound instead of per cwt.

Labor rules

  • IATSE Local 7 covers most display and material handling work (2024) source
  • Full-time employees may install and dismantle their own display if it takes under 60 minutes and uses no mechanized tools; longer work goes to the general contractor or another Local 7 signatory source
  • Placing product in the booth is the exhibitor's own work and outside the union rules source
  • Hand-carry allowed; anything needing dollies or forklifts is Local 7 labor via the general contractor; exhibitor workers need show badges (source 1, 2)

Drayage (moving your freight to the booth)

  • FAN EXPO Denver 2021: $137.00/cwt straight time, billed in 100 lb increments, 200 lb minimum, plus a 25% dock fee on handling charges source
  • Denver Travel & Adventure Show Feb 2023 (Expo Event Services): crated/skidded $175.00 per 100 lb, $350 minimum; a second tier $208.00 per 100 lb, $416 minimum source

Shipping deadlines

  • Dot Foods Innovations 2024: the Colorado Convention Center does NOT accept exhibitor freight or supplies through its package room - use the contractor source

Rules and rates change by show. Your show's exhibitor kit is the final word; we check it for you before we quote.
