Exhibiting in New Orleans: what to know

What we check for every New Orleans show, with sources. We handle all of it as part of the all-in price.

How drayage is billed

Drayage (material handling) is billed per hundredweight (cwt = 100 lb), rounded up to the next 100 lb, usually with a 200 lb (2 cwt) minimum per shipment; it covers moving freight from dock or warehouse to the booth, storing empty crates, and returning it to the dock after the show. Cost = rate x (weight / 100). Special handling (uncrated, loose, ground unload) and overtime cost more; late arrivals after the warehouse deadline get a surcharge. Some contractors (Freeman, GES Material Handling+) now bill per pound instead of per cwt.

Labor rules

  • Exhibitors and their contractors may not operate motorized or mechanical material handling equipment or lifts (AAOS) source
  • AAOS (Morial): all exhibitor-appointed contractor labor must be properly hired union labor source
  • Rigging must go through the general service contractor source

Drayage (moving your freight to the booth)

  • WEFTEC 2020 (Freeman, New Orleans): machinery handling on a sliding scale starting at $48.75/cwt up to 5,000 lb (machinery with lifting points only, not general crated freight) source
  • Court Technology Conference 2019 at Morial (Freeman): crated/skidded warehouse $88.75/cwt ($177.50 at the 200 lb minimum) source
  • ASGCT 2025 at Morial (Freeman): 200 lb minimum; freight without certified weight tickets charged at prevailing rates (rate table not readable) source

Electrical and utilities

  • Electrical, plumbing and other utilities are exclusively managed by the Morial Convention Center (MCCNO) source

Rules and rates change by show. Your show's exhibitor kit is the final word; we check it for you before we quote.
