01 THE FOUR WITH PUBLISHED FIGURES

Biggest eyewear and optical trade shows in the U.S. Four floors. Where the opticians and doctors walk.

Only four of the nine U.S. events in this guide publish an attendance or exhibitor figure. Vision Expo, now one show a year, leads by a wide margin; the optometry meetings and the independent frame shows are smaller, focused rooms.

The lookbookFrames 2027

The frame is the face. Show it like one.

Opticians and boutique buyers judge a frame the way their customers will: on a face, in good light, at a mirror. Plan the booth around that moment.

FGX International · Purple Exhibits

Optipak · Purple Exhibits

Let buyers shop the whole range on one wall.

Slatwall runs the length of the booth with eyewear cases in every color and finish at eye level, gift bags on top and a cloth color chart in the middle, while a lit pedestal and a literature rack sit at the aisle.

Optipak booth by Purple Exhibits with a large printed banner, a giant open eyewear case display and a wall of cases behind04 / THE BIG PRINT

Optipak · Purple Exhibits

Say what you make from three aisles away.

A tall printed banner carries the brand over the booth, a giant open eyewear case sits at the front as a photo stop and the wall of cases behind it shows the full range, so the booth reads from far down the aisle and close up at the shelf.

The prescription, by booth size

What fits in each eyewear booth size, laid out four ways.

The frame bar10×20

200 sq ft. Room for a real frame wall and a real seat for the buyer.

In the space
A back wall of frame boards with soft vertical light, two try-on mirrors, a counter with two stools, a lockable case for premium pieces, sample storage and two to three staff.
Best for
Independent frame and sunwear brands, case and accessory makers and lens or instrument companies at Vision Expo and the optometry meetings.
Good to know
At optometry meetings that sell space in 10×10 units, two side by side give you this layout. At LOFT, EYECON and N.E.O.S., where displays are small and brand-made, we build portable frame displays, graphics and lighting instead.

The long wall10×30

300 sq ft, usually inline. A full run of frame boards by collection.

In the space
Frame boards along the whole back wall grouped by collection or price point, mirrors every few feet, a counter at each end, lockable storage and three to five staff.
Best for
Frame houses with several brands or licenses, optical and sunwear lines shown side by side and distributors showing many collections.
Good to know
Group the wall the way opticians buy: men’s, women’s, kids’ and sun, or by price tier, with the collection name on every board so a buyer can shop without help.

The dispensary20×20

400 sq ft, often an island open on all sides.

In the space
Frame walls on two faces, a lens or instrument demo station on the third, a closed room or screened table for pricing, lit cases for premium frames, a header or hanging sign where permitted and four to eight staff.
Best for
Established frame houses, lens makers and equipment companies at Vision Expo, and the larger exhibitors at SECO and the AOA meeting.
Good to know
Decide early where the demo sits. Lens and instrument demos need power, a dimmer corner and a clear line of sight, so they usually take the quieter face of the island.

The flagship optical20×30+

600 sq ft and up. An optical store on the show floor.

In the space
Frame walls on every face by brand, a lens lab or edging demo, two or more meeting rooms, a lounge for key accounts and buying groups, back-of-house storage and a hanging sign.
Best for
Eyewear groups with several brands, lens and lab companies with a full product story and equipment makers showing a complete exam lane.
Good to know
Plan the electrical drops, the rigging and any running equipment before the drawings are final. At Vision Expo, Freeman’s discount deadline for 2027 is February 8.

07 EVERY FRAME HAS A FACE WAITING FOR IT

Choose the right eyewear show audience Know who buys. Meet them where they try on.

An independent optician, an optometrist who owns three offices and a chain buyer can pick up the same frame and ask three different questions: how it fits, how it sells and how fast it reorders. Choose the people you need in front of you, and we’ll help you narrow the field.

Eyewear shows for new brands & first-time exhibitors Your first U.S. show. Your first optical accounts.

09 LET’S GET YOU SHOW-READY

How to exhibit at an eyewear or optical trade show Hang the frames. Then light the mirror.

Optical shows run on hands-on product, short buying windows and practice owners with a few hours between courses. Let’s break it into manageable pieces: the frame wall, the mirrors and light, the lens demo, the private table, the two kinds of floor, the small shows, the freight and the follow-up.

01THE FRAME WALLHang the line the way opticians shop.
  • Frames at eye level: Group by collection, shape or price point on frame boards, with the collection name and price tier on each panel.
  • Leave space between frames: A crowded board reads as stock; spaced frames read as a collection. Show fewer styles per board and keep the rest in drawers below.
  • Show the colorways: Put one style in every color on a single row, so a buyer sees the range without asking for the sample case.
  • Count what walks: Frames are small and easy to pocket. Count the boards at open and close, and keep premium pieces in lit, locked cases.
02THE MIRRORS & LIGHTLight the face, not just the frame.
  • Mirrors every few feet: Put try-on mirrors along the wall and at the counter, at standing and seated height.
  • Soft light on the face: Use diffused light from the front and sides of each mirror so the buyer sees the fit, not a shadow under the brow.
  • True color: LEDs with a CRI of 90 or higher show acetate colors, tortoise patterns and lens tints the way they look in the shop.
  • Tame the glare: Polished metal and glass shelves throw reflections. We test frame boards and mirrors under the booth lights in our Fishkill, NY shop before the booth ships.
03THE LENS DEMOLet them see through the product.

Lenses, coatings and instruments are hard to judge on a wall. A short demo turns a spec sheet into something a doctor can see.

  • Build a demo station: A counter with a light box, sample lenses, a coating test or a tablet with a lens simulator, at standing height.
  • Give it a dim corner: Photochromic, polarized and anti-reflective demos read best away from the brightest booth light.
  • Order power early: Instruments, edgers and screens need electrical drops ordered from the show’s contractor, cheapest before the discount deadline.
  • Schedule it: At the optometry meetings, the hall opens between courses. Post demo times that match the breaks.
04THE PRIVATE TABLEGive the order a seat.
  • Book the key accounts first: Email current accounts, buying groups and target practices four to six weeks out with your booth number, what is new and two or three time slots.
  • Seat the order at the wall: A counter with stools beside the frame boards lets a practice owner write the order at the wall they just shopped.
  • Close the door on pricing: Chain, buying group and distributor terms belong at a screened table or in a small closed room.
  • Leave open slots: New buyers find you in the aisle. Keep calendar space at peak hours.
05THE TWO KINDS OF FLOORFrame show or optometry meeting? Plan for both.

Optical events come in two kinds, and the same booth works differently at each.

  • Frame shows (Vision Expo, LOFT, EYECON, N.E.O.S. and the Southern Independent Optical Show) are about the collection. Buyers come to see what is new, try it on and write opening orders. Lead with the frame wall and the mirrors.
  • Optometry meetings (SECO, Heart of America and the AOA’s Optometry’s Meeting) are built around continuing education. The hall opens for set hours, for example only Friday and Saturday at SECO 2027, and doctors come between courses. Lead with the demo, keep the message short and staff every hour the hall is open.
  • Vision Expo does both: it carries the big frame houses and a full education program, so plan for buyers and doctors in the same aisle.
06THE SMALL SHOWSA display that fits in a hotel ballroom or a loft.

LOFT runs in two Chelsea event spaces and calls itself the anti-trade show, EYECON fills The Glasshouse on 12th Avenue and N.E.O.S. takes over a Providence arts center in the spring and moves cities in the fall. Space is small and the displays are made by the brands.

  • Build a kit, not a booth: We make portable frame displays, lit risers, mirrors, printed graphics and a counter that pack into cases and set up in an hour.
  • Reuse it all season: The same kit works at LOFT and EYECON in March, N.E.O.S. in April and the fall regionals.
  • Go custom where the floor allows: At Vision Expo, where the show sells raw space, we build custom booths from 10×20 up.
07THE FREIGHTShip the booth early. Hand-carry the newest frames.
  • Count back from the warehouse deadline: Every general contractor publishes a date when freight must reach the advance warehouse. Our builds take 30 to 45 days, so we work back from that date.
  • Watch the March stack: SECO in Atlanta, LOFT and EYECON in New York and Vision Expo in Las Vegas all fall between March 3 and 13, 2027. If you do more than one, plan two sets of frame boards or a tight hand-off.
  • Ship the booth from the U.S.: We build in our Fishkill, NY shop and stage from our Las Vegas hub, a short drive from The Venetian Expo for Vision Expo 2027.
  • Keep samples with the team: Prototype and launch frames often travel in carry-on sample cases rather than in the booth crates.
08THE FOLLOW-UPSend the order confirmation before they reopen the shop.

Take orders and requests at the booth on a scanner or tablet with the style numbers, colors, sizes and quantities, and send order confirmations, line sheets and rep contact details within days of the show.

Tag every lead as an independent optician, a practice owner, a chain, a buying group or a distributor, so follow-up reaches the right person. Track results over a full reorder cycle: a practice that opens with a small frame board in March may double it by the fall, so measure doors opened and reorders, not only the leads.

THE BUYER FILE

Your line, ready for every optician.

Opticians, practice owners and chain buyers decide fast between courses and appointments. Have this ready as a printed line sheet and a short digital kit, so opening the account is easy.

10 THE MATH BEHIND THE FRAME WALL

Eyewear trade show budget & ROI Clear goals. Doors you can count.

Let’s put numbers behind the plan. Add your full show budget and your own account economics to see what breaking even could look like over a realistic reorder cycle.

Budget beyond the square footage.

Space & presence
Booth space or tabletop, design, graphics, frame walls, mirrors, lit cases, demo station, flooring, furniture and lighting.
Getting there
Freight for the booth and displays, material handling by weight, installation, dismantle and storage, and sample cases carried by the team.
Running the booth
Electrical for lighting and demos, internet, cleaning, lead capture, line sheets, sample lines and giveaways.
Your people & follow-through
Sales reps and staff time, travel, show-week hotels, account dinners and post-show follow-up.

Get itemized quotes and an explicit contingency. Frame walls, mirrors, lighting and sample lines weigh more on an eyewear budget than floor space, and show-week hotels in Las Vegas and New York add up fast. These categories are a planning checklist, not a price estimate.

THE EXHIBIT MATH

Let’s do the math.

An example to get you started. Change the numbers to fit your company.

Use contribution after the cost of goods and serving the account, before show cost, not order value. Many optical accounts open with a small frame board and grow with reorders, so choose one evaluation period (for example, 12 months) for every input.

Real booth prices, published.

What organizers list for space. Add the exhibit, freight, labor, utilities and travel.

What is the difference between a frame show and an optometry meeting?

A frame show (Vision Expo, LOFT, EYECON, N.E.O.S. and the Southern Independent Optical Show) is built around collections: buyers come to try frames on and write orders. An optometry meeting (SECO, Heart of America and the AOA’s Optometry’s Meeting) is built around continuing education, and the exhibit hall opens for set hours between courses. Frame brands lead with the wall and mirrors; lens, equipment and practice-technology companies often do better at the meetings, where the doctors who buy for the exam lane gather.

How much does a booth at an optical show cost?

Space prices vary widely and most organizers publish no rate card. One that does: the Heart of America 2027 exhibitor prospectus (August 2026) lists $2,650 per 10×10 booth and $13,250 per 20×20 island, with furnishings extra. Build, freight, labor and electrical come on top of space. We quote every booth as one all-in price in a fixed proposal, from 10×20 up.

How do you display frames in a trade show booth?

On frame boards at eye level, grouped by collection or price tier, with space between frames, mirrors every few feet and soft light on the face. Premium frames go in lit, locked cases, and a counter with stools beside the wall lets a buyer write the order where they shopped. We test the boards and mirrors under the booth lights in our Fishkill, NY shop before the booth ships.

How early should we start planning a Vision Expo 2027 booth?

Start in late 2026. Our builds take 30 to 45 days, Freeman’s discount deadline is February 8, 2027 and the show opens March 10, 2027, so design sign-off by early January 2027 leaves time for production, freight and the early-order savings. If you also do SECO, LOFT or EYECON the week before, plan the hand-off of frames and displays at the same time.

Can Purple build for LOFT, EYECON or N.E.O.S.?

Yes. These shows use small, brand-made displays rather than custom booths, so we build a portable kit: frame displays, lit risers, mirrors, printed graphics and a counter that pack into cases. The same kit works at several shows in a season. At Vision Expo, where the show sells raw space, we build custom booths from 10×20 up.

Which optometry meetings have the biggest exhibit halls?

Of the three in this guide, the AOA’s Optometry’s Meeting lists 100+ industry vendors in Eye Care Square, per AOA; SECO describes hundreds of exhibitors, per SECO; and Heart of America reports 1,500+ attendees each year, per the Congress, with 10×10 booths and a limited number of 20×20 islands.

12 SPEAK FLUENT OPTICAL

Eyewear and optical trade show glossary The buyer’s vocabulary.

Frame board, acetate, progressive, paraoptometric, buying group. The words opticians, optometrists, frame reps and show managers use every day, in plain English, so nothing gets lost between the mirror, the order form and the service desk.

Show all 26 terms

Frames & lenses

Ophthalmic frame
A frame made to hold prescription lenses. Opticians call it an optical frame, as opposed to sunwear, and judge it on fit, hinge quality and how well it takes a lens.
Sunwear
Sunglasses sold through optical shops and sunwear specialists. Many buyers ask whether a sun style is Rx-able, meaning it can take prescription lenses.
Acetate
A plant-based plastic cut from layered sheets, used for most colored and tortoiseshell frames. Buyers look at the depth of color and how the edges are polished.
Eye size, bridge and temple
The three numbers printed inside a frame, in millimeters: lens width, the gap across the nose and the arm length. Buyers check them against the faces they fit every day.
Demo lens
The clear, non-prescription lens a frame ships with. It holds the shape on the board and is replaced with the patient’s lenses at the lab.
Progressive lens
A lens with a gradual change in power from distance at the top to reading at the bottom. Lens makers often demo progressive designs at optometry meetings.
Lens coating
A layer added to a lens, such as anti-reflective, scratch-resistant or blue-light filtering. Coatings are hard to see on a wall, so they sell best with a short demo.
Optical lab
The wholesale lab that surfaces, coats and edges lenses and fits them to frames for practices. Labs exhibit at Vision Expo and at the optometry meetings.

Selling & buying

Frame rep
The sales representative who visits optical shops with sample cases. Independent reps often carry several brands; N.E.O.S. was started by a group of them.
Opening order
The first order a new account places, usually a set number of frames. Low opening minimums help a new brand get onto an independent shop’s board.
Buying group
A group of independent practices that buys together for better terms. Buying groups and their members walk the big floors looking for approved vendors.
Independent
An owner-run optical shop or practice, as opposed to a chain. Independents are the main buyers at LOFT, EYECON, N.E.O.S. and the regional shows.
Line sheet
A printed or digital list of every style with photos, sizes, colors and wholesale prices. Buyers use it to write the order at the booth and to reorder later.
Keystone
A retail markup that doubles the wholesale price. Frame buyers check whether your wholesale price leaves them their usual margin.

Optometry & practice

Optometrist (OD)
A Doctor of Optometry who examines eyes, prescribes lenses and often owns the practice and its dispensary. ODs are the main audience at SECO, Heart of America and the AOA meeting.
Optician
The professional who fits and dispenses glasses and often chooses the frames for the shop. Many hold ABO certification.
Paraoptometric
A member of an optometry practice’s staff, such as a technician or assistant. Optometry meetings run education tracks for them, and they often influence what the practice buys.
Continuing education (CE)
Courses optometrists and opticians take to keep their licenses. Optometry meetings are built around CE, so exhibit hall hours fit between courses.
Exam lane
The room where the eye exam takes place, with its chair, stand and instruments. Equipment makers sometimes build a working exam lane in the booth.
Dispensary
The part of a practice where frames are displayed, chosen and fitted. Frame brands sell to the dispensary; lens and equipment companies sell to the exam lane and lab.

Booth & show floor

Frame board
A wall panel or rail that holds frames at eye level. Opticians shop a booth the way they shop a dispensary, so frame boards are the heart of most eyewear booths.
Try-on mirror
A mirror placed beside the frame boards so buyers can see a frame on the face. Soft, even light on the face matters as much as the mirror.
CRI
Color Rendering Index, a 0 to 100 measure of how true a light source shows color. LEDs with a CRI of 90 or higher show acetate colors and lens tints accurately.
Exhibit hall hours
The set hours an optometry meeting opens its hall, often only two days. Staff every hour the hall is open and plan demos around the course breaks.
Advance warehouse
The general contractor’s warehouse that accepts booth freight before move-in and delivers it to the booth. Each show publishes the date freight must arrive.
Discount deadline
The date by which orders for electrical, furniture, carpet and labor get the lower rate. Freeman’s discount deadline for Vision Expo 2027 is February 8, 2027.
