Fresh on ice, frozen in view: Seafood Expo North America 2027 booths, Boston

Retail and foodservice buyers judge seafood by eye before they taste it, so we build drained ice beds, glass-door freezers and a quiet table where species, pack size and supply get priced. At the BCEC we place your Freeman, Lowe Refrigeration and Acme Ice orders and build alongside Carpenters Local 327.

  • Ice for display included

What makes Seafood Expo North America different, and how we build for it

Diversified Communications runs Seafood Expo North America as a one-category marketplace: its aisles sell fish, shellfish and sea vegetables, while the co-located Seafood Processing North America brings freezing systems, slicers, live tanks and packaging machinery into the same building. The Key Buyer Program brings more than 600 high-volume retail and foodservice purchasers a year, with Power Hour access before opening. The Wave Makers' Zone holds the Seafood Excellence Awards, the New and Featured Product Showcases, chef demonstrations and, in 2026, the Oyster Shucking Competition. Space includes ice for display and onsite cold storage, and leftover product can go to the Greater Boston Food Bank, so booths here are built to keep product cold and in plain view.

Retail category managers and private label buyers

Species, origin, certification and the retail pack beside the product on ice, so they can picture it in their seafood case and price a private label program on the spot.

Foodservice and multi-unit purchasers

Portion-cut and value-added items shown raw and cooked, yield and plate-cost numbers, and proof you can supply every location for a full menu cycle.

Importers, distributors and processors

Volumes by season, landed cost, cold-chain and traceability paperwork, and a seat away from the aisle to settle container orders and contract terms.

Your team in Boston

Two shops, one project manager, every hall

We build in our own production shop in Fishkill, NY, and our Las Vegas hub, ship to the Thomas M. Menino Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC), and install with our own project manager on the floor and vetted local labor. Predictable 30–45-day turnarounds, secure storage and pre-show QA.

Your team walks into a lit, stocked booth. You just show up.

Rules that shape your booth

Health permit covers every item

Exhibitors must hold a Boston Health Department health permit for the booth, and every food item brought in must be covered under it. We list each species and preparation on the application and build a covered prep and hand-off counter around exactly what it names.

Organizer rule

Samples stay on the floor

All sampling happens on the exhibit floor, attendees may not leave with samples, and product carried to the exits is confiscated and donated to charity. We plan your leftovers as a Greater Boston Food Bank donation or file the outbound Bill of Lading Freeman needs before the show closes.

Organizer rule

Booth drawings approved before build

Every lead exhibitor submits the Booth Approval Form with booth details and design drawings for evaluation and approval (2026 rules). We draw your booth to scale, mark freezers, ice beds, drains and any J. Calpro hanging sign, and file the form for you.

Organizer rule

Alcohol pours only through Levy

Levy Restaurants holds the liquor license at the Menino center, outside alcohol is banned from the building, and a certified Levy bartender serves any alcohol for a fee (2026 rules). For wine or beer pairings, we build a back bar for that bartender and list the fee on your proposal.

Organizer rule

Trade buyers only, 18 and up

Only qualified seafood industry professionals may attend, the show is closed to the public and no one under 18 is allowed on the floor. We skip consumer giveaways and build for spec sheets, pricing and volume conversations instead.

Popular booth sizes at Seafood Expo North America

Diversified prices space by the square foot and publishes separate fees for corners, cross-aisles and double-decker structures, so footprints run from 10×10 inlines to islands that span an aisle. For a first Boston show we recommend a 10×20 with one drained ice bed and one freezer; to launch a supply program, a 20×20 island with a closed buyer room.

04 Designing for seafood producers, importers and processors at Seafood Expo North America

Four things we get right for Seafood Expo North America exhibitors

Whole red rockfish and dark cod laid on crushed ice in a market display bin1

Plan for the ice melt

Ice for display comes with your space and Acme Ice is the official ice vendor, but an iced bed sheds water all day. We build beds with sloped liners, drip trays and hidden drain hoses tied to the Menino center's water and drain service, so the carpet stays dry until Tuesday's 3 p.m. close.

Freshly shucked oysters on the half shell resting on a tray of crushed ice2

Keep the frozen case honest

Onsite cold storage holds your reserve product, but the case in the booth still has to hold temperature through two seven-hour days and a five-hour Tuesday. We spec glass-door freezers and reach-ins from Lowe Refrigeration, the show's refrigeration vendor, or build yours into the counter, vent compressors behind louvered panels and order a circuit for each unit.

Woman behind a seafood counter displaying salmon, shrimp and whole fish on ice3

Show it raw, cooked and packed

New Product Showcase finalists must show the product raw, prepared and in its packaging, and the judges give taste profile 30% of the score. We lay out your booth the same way: raw product on ice, a cooked bite at the counter and the retail pack at eye level, so a buyer judges all three at once.

Fishmonger pouring water over whole fish on an iced display to keep them fresh4

Give Key Buyers a door

The Key Buyer Program brings more than 600 high-volume purchasers a year, and Power Hour lets them walk the hall before the 10 a.m. opening with volumes to place. A closed meeting room or a screened table at the back of an island lets your sales lead settle specs, landed price and delivery while the sampling counter keeps working.

05 Thomas M. Menino Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) · Boston

Logistics for Seafood Expo North America 2027, handled

Exhibitors still call the Menino center the BCEC, and because Massachusetts has no right-to-work law, Carpenters Local 327 handles substantial booth assembly here under Freeman, the decorator and freight handler. The MCCA supplies electrical, water, drain and gas, J. Calpro hangs signs and truss, Levy Restaurants caters and Lowe Refrigeration rents the freezers. Boston ranks among the priciest drayage markets in the country, so every crate gets weighed and consolidated before we quote. We place each of those orders, ship to Freeman's advance warehouse, run install and dismantle with our project manager and vetted Boston labor, and file the outbound bill of lading at the Freeman Service Desk before Tuesday's 3 p.m. close.

Hall rules, drayage estimates and freight deadlines for this building are in our Boston Convention & Exhibition Center exhibitor guide.

Hall guide

The BCEC's exhibit floor is 516,000 contiguous square feet on one level, in three bays that can be sectioned or linked, and the 2026 floor plan put both shows on it. Here is how its areas shape your booth.

Exhibit floor, three bays

Contiguous space on one level; the 2026 edition covered 247,915 net square feet of it with seafood and processing exhibits.

Our advice: We stage freezers and ice beds first during move-in so they hold temperature before your product leaves onsite cold storage.

Wave Makers' Zone

Booth 3165 on the 2026 floor plan, with Seafood Tasting, the Demonstration Theater and the New and Featured Product Showcases; Seafood Excellence Award winners are announced here March 7, 2027.

Our advice: A $950 Seafood Tasting session buys 20 minutes of serving inside a 30-minute slot in the zone's Sand Bar Area; we pack a portable sampling kit so your own booth keeps serving.

Seafood Processing North America section

The co-located equipment show for freezing systems, slicers, scales, live tanks, packaging machinery and cold storage, set on the shared floor in 2026 with blue drape instead of black.

Our advice: Equipment exhibitors apply through Seafood Processing North America; we plan machine weight and power early and face the running machine toward the seafood aisles.

Room 052, Level 0

Expo management and the service desks, including the Freeman Service Desk, sat here in 2026; outbound shipping and donation forms were filed here before the show closed.

Our advice: Floor pickup was barred in 2026, so we file your outbound bill of lading on Tuesday and your crates and leftover product leave from the docks.

What Purple handles

  • Freeman labor, material handling and outbound bill of lading
  • MCCA electrical, water and drain orders for iced displays
  • Boston temporary food permit filed with your home health license
  • Booth Approval Form drawings and J. Calpro hanging-sign orders
  • Drained ice beds and refrigerated counters built in Fishkill, NY
  • Install and dismantle with our own project manager on the floor

Seafood Expo North America exhibitor questions

Questions exhibitors ask us before Seafood Expo North America

How much does a booth at Seafood Expo North America 2027 cost?

Start from a 10×20, because a seafood booth usually carries refrigeration: a rental runs $7,500 to $15,000 and a custom build $15,000 to $45,000. A custom 20×20 island with a cooler and buyer room runs $50,000 to $120,000. Freezers, drained ice beds and Boston drayage move the number here. Space is billed separately at Diversified's current published $56 per square foot, so a 10×20 is $11,200 before corner fees.

What is the deadline for Seafood Expo North America 2027?

The next organizer deadline is February 4, 2027, when New Product Showcase and Featured Product Showcase applications close; New Product Showcase entries after it cannot enter the Seafood Excellence Awards. Penalty-free onPeak hotel cancellations end February 13, 2027. On our side, design sign-off by mid-December 2026 gives a 30- to 45-day build time to reach Freeman's advance warehouse.

Can we rent a booth for Seafood Expo North America, and what's included?

You can. Our rental package covers the frame, printed graphics, lighting, a counter with a drained ice bed or a freezer bay, freight, install and dismantle on one fixed proposal. Diversified's space adds pipe and drape, a booth sign, five badges per 100 square feet, ice for display and onsite cold storage, so you bring product and staff and we bring the rest.

Can our own staff set up the booth at the BCEC?

Only small jobs. Exhibitors may hand-build only below the BCEC's size and height limits, and in a state without a right-to-work law, anything larger goes to Carpenters Local 327 through Freeman. We order those union hours, have our project manager direct them and engineer your ice beds and counters to lock together fast, so the Boston labor bill stays short.

Do we need a permit to give out seafood samples in Boston?

Yes. Every exhibitor bringing in food needs a Boston Health Department permit covering each food item, and in 2026 the application went in with the food service license from your home health department. Samples stay on the floor, and any carried toward the exits are confiscated and donated. In Wave Makers' Zone tastings, portions are bite size, 2 ounces at most. We file the permit and build the prep counter.

What does drayage cost at the BCEC, and who pays it?

You pay it, and Freeman's tariff in the exhibitor kit sets the bill, since Freeman handles freight at this show. Purple's 2026 BCEC planning figure puts crated advance-warehouse freight at $323.95 per hundredweight with a 200-pound minimum charge. Freezers and display cases are heavy, so we combine crates and list the drayage estimate on your proposal.

Can we reuse our seafood booth at other food shows?

We build the frame and refrigerated counters to travel. The same booth works at the National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago in May, IDDBA in Atlanta in June and the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York in July, each time with graphics printed for that buyer. Between shows we keep it in storage, replace worn panels and freight it on to the next advance warehouse.

We are exhibiting from outside the US. Can you help?

On US soil we take care of design, build, freight from our Fishkill shop to Freeman's advance warehouse, install, dismantle and storage until the following year's show. Exhibitors came from 50 countries in 2026. The organizer lists CFI, Inc. as its official customs broker for your product, and it does not issue visa invitation letters, so your staff apply with their show registration confirmation instead.

Can we put a live tank in our booth?

Live tanks are a listed product category at Seafood Processing North America, and the organizer's vendor list includes Boston Aquariums, LLC for aquarium rental. Water weighs about 8.3 pounds per gallon, so we reinforce the counter, plan filling and draining with the MCCA's water and drain service, and show the tank on your booth drawings.

When is Seafood Expo North America 2027?

Seafood Expo North America 2027 runs Sunday, March 7 to Tuesday, March 9, 2027, together with Seafood Processing North America. The hall is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 7 and 8 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 9, and the Seafood Excellence Award winners are named at 3:30 p.m. on opening day.

Where is Seafood Expo North America 2027 held?

At the Thomas M. Menino Convention & Exhibition Center, 415 Summer Street, Boston, the building most exhibitors still call the BCEC. The venue sits 2.9 miles from Logan International Airport, the Silver Line's World Trade Center stop is across from the building, and Diversified's discounted Boston room block runs through onPeak, its official hotel partner.

How many people attend Seafood Expo North America?

More than 19,000 seafood professionals attended in 2026, when 1,215 companies from 50 countries exhibited on 247,915 net square feet. Diversified estimated 20,000 attendees in 2025 and counted more than 19,780 in 2024. Its 2025 recap named Aldi, Costco, Kroger, Sysco, Walmart and Whole Foods Market among the high-volume buyers present.

Is Seafood Expo North America open to the public?

No. Diversified admits qualified seafood industry professionals only, and nobody under 18 may enter the show floor. Owners, purchasing managers and category managers from retail, foodservice, distribution and processing register as trade visitors, while high-volume retail and foodservice purchasers can register through the Key Buyer Program, which adds Power Hour entry to the hall before it opens each day.

How do I get a booth at Seafood Expo North America?

Diversified Communications, based in Portland, Maine, produces the show and sells every booth. Its Exhibitor Information page lists the per-square-foot rate and what the space includes, from badges to ice for display, and Diversified asks exhibitors to submit the space contract as soon as possible. Equipment suppliers book through Seafood Processing North America.
