The short answer

Booth staffing in Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale staffing starts with the water: half the work here happens on docks and decks, not only in the hall. Purple Exhibits sends local brand ambassadors, yacht hostesses, booth reps and product presenters to the Broward County Convention Center, the boat show marinas, the new waterfront ballroom and the Las Olas and beach hotels. Every role is a flat $85 an hour per person with a four-hour minimum, and our Broward crew means no travel fees. For the boat show, reserve six weeks out; most other shows need three to four weeks, and a rush takes 72 hours.

Getting in. The Convention Center Connector, opened in October 2025, takes cars from U.S. 1 and State Road 84 straight to the center and the Omni, with no port security checkpoint. Freight trucks still follow Port Everglades rules.

Labor. The center is non-union in a right-to-work state. Our staff greet, demo, scan and host; rigging, electrical, internet and catering are the center’s own services.

Boat show week

One boat show, spread across the water

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show runs for five days in late October or early November, across the convention center and several marinas linked by shuttles and water taxis. Each site needs a different kind of host.

Broward County Convention Center

Indoor halls

Engines, electronics, gear and accessories. Booth reps and product presenters who scan and qualify.

Bahia Mar Yachting Center

Show headquarters

The busiest docks. Yacht hostesses at each gangway and a greeter at the head of the pier.

Hall of Fame Marina

Next to Bahia Mar

Smaller boats and tenders. Ambassadors who move guests between boats and keep a sign-up list.

Las Olas Marina

Off Las Olas Boulevard

Brokers and builders in the water. Hostesses who manage boarding and pass leads to your sales team.

Pier Sixty-Six Marina

On the 17th Street side

Large yachts and owner visits. Hosts used to private appointments and quiet decks.

Superyacht Village

Pier Sixty-Six South

The biggest boats at the show. VIP hosts for appointment-only boarding and guest lists.

Site names follow the organiser’s published show map. The layout can change year to year, so we confirm your slip or booth before we brief the crew.

Deck rules

How our yacht hostesses work a boat

Hosting on a deck is not the same job as standing at a booth. These are the habits we brief before anyone sets foot on a dock.

Shoes come off

Most boats ask guests to board barefoot. Our hostess runs the shoe station, keeps pairs together and watches the line so the gangway stays clear.

Sun on the dock

There is little shade on a pier. Hats, water and sunscreen are packed, and dock staff swap into shade on a set rotation.

Heat and humidity

Late-October afternoons can still feel like summer. We plan breathable, brand-colored outfits and a dry change for evening events.

Ask before boarding

Staff never step aboard without the captain or broker’s say-so, and they know which decks and cabins are closed to guests.

Quiet with owners

At private appointments the host greets, logs the visit and steps back. The broker leads the tour.

Bad weather plan

A passing squall closes the docks for an hour. Staff move guests to the tent or the hall and restart the boarding list after.

Weather and water

Storm season, dry season, sailing days

Four calendar facts we plan Broward shifts around.

June 1 to Nov 30

The Atlantic hurricane season. Outdoor events carry a weather plan, and we keep extra standby staff on call.

August to October

The busiest storm weeks. If a show changes dates for a storm, call us right away and we will work to crew the new days.

November to April

Dry, sunny season. Hotels fill with winter visitors, so set your room block early.

Cruise days

Port Everglades terminals are a few minutes from the center. Weekend sailing days add traffic around 17th Street.

Loose lines

Six Fort Lauderdale mistakes we help exhibitors avoid

LINE 1

Staffing only the hall at boat show time

Buyers spend most of the day on the docks. Put people at your slip, not just at the booth.

LINE 2

No shoe station

A pile of sandals at the gangway slows boarding and loses leads. Give one host the job.

LINE 3

Planning a full day in the sun

Dock staff need shade breaks. Add a relief person when shifts run past six hours.

LINE 4

Booking the boat show late

Boat show crews fill early. Reserve six weeks out.

LINE 5

Ignoring the storm calendar

A summer or fall outdoor event needs a covered backup and a plan for a date change.

LINE 6

Overlapping the boat show

Another show’s move-in close to the boat show competes for docks, halls and hotel rooms. Leave a week of space.

Purple Exhibits Fort Lauderdale team
Reviewed by our South Florida coordinators · Updated

How much do trade show models cost in Fort Lauderdale?

$85 an hour per person with a four-hour minimum. Yacht hostesses, booth reps, brand ambassadors and product presenters all bill the same rate, and Broward bookings have no travel fees.

Where can I hire booth staff near the Broward County Convention Center?

Through our Fort Lauderdale team. The crew lives across Broward, most of them a short drive from the center and the port, so there are no flights or hotel nights on your bill. Send your booth or slip number and we answer within a day.

Can I book promotional models for one day?

Yes. One day or one shift is fine, with a four-hour minimum per person. Two promotional models for a five-hour beach or hotel activation cost $850 in total.

What do your hostesses wear on the docks?

Most boat show exhibitors choose resort whites or navy logo polos with soft, non-marking deck shoes, plus hats for long sun shifts. For ballroom evenings we switch to cocktail attire in your brand colors.

Do you staff the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show?

Yes. We staff exhibitors at the boat show both in the convention center halls and at the in-water displays at the marinas. Use the dock and hall planner on this page to size your crew.

When is the boat show?

It runs for five days in late October or early November. The 2026 show is October 28 to November 1. Confirm each year’s dates with the organiser before you book staff.

How many locations does the boat show use?

The show is spread across the convention center and several marinas, including Bahia Mar, Hall of Fame Marina, Las Olas Marina, Pier Sixty-Six and Superyacht Village. Shuttles and water taxis link them.

Do your hostesses know yacht etiquette?

Yes. They run the shoe station, ask the captain or broker before boarding, keep closed decks closed and keep the gangway clear. At private appointments they greet, log the visit and let the broker lead.

How do you handle the heat on the docks?

Dock staff work a shade rotation with water and sun gear. For shifts over six hours we suggest one relief person for every three dock staff.

What about hurricane season?

The season runs June 1 to November 30. We keep standby staff on call, and if a show changes dates for a storm, we rebook your crew for the new days.

Is the Broward County Convention Center union?

No. Florida is a right-to-work state. Our staff greet, demo, scan and host; rigging, electrical, internet and catering go through the center’s own providers.

How do guests reach the convention center inside the port?

The Convention Center Connector, opened in October 2025, gives cars a direct route from U.S. 1 and State Road 84 without passing a port security checkpoint. The airport is about five minutes away.

Can you staff events at the Omni and the waterfront ballroom?

Yes. We send hostesses and registration hosts for general sessions, award dinners and galas in the 65,000-square-foot ballroom and the attached Omni.

How early should I book?

Six weeks for the boat show and three to four weeks for most other shows. Rush bookings need 72 hours.

What if a staffer cancels on show day?

We send a briefed replacement from our Broward bench within two hours, or that shift is free.
