Farwest Show 2027 booths in Portland: full-size stock, open aisle sightlines

Farwest buyers book nursery stock by seeing trees and shrubs at real size, so we build planted landscapes that stay low at the aisle and rise toward the back. Fern Expo handles forklifts and drayage, the Oregon Convention Center supplies power and water, and we file both sets of orders.

What makes Farwest Show different, and how we build for it

Farwest is the Oregon Association of Nurseries' show, and it is built on Oregon's nursery stock: shade trees, conifers, shrubs and bareroot. Breeders enter the New Varieties Showcase, suppliers launch in the New Products Showcase, the Automation Summit draws growers looking for equipment, and exhibitors compete in the Farwest Booth Awards and the Retailers Choice Awards. Nursery bus tours run on Tuesday, August 24, the day before opening. Buyers come to see real plant material at real size, so the winning booths are planted landscapes that still keep the aisle view open.

Wholesale growers and re-wholesalers

Liners, finished stock and availability shown side by side, with grades, sizes and shipping windows they can compare on the spot.

Garden center owners and buyers

Landscape professionals and designers

Trees and shrubs at mature size in a planted setting, plus durable hardscape, irrigation and equipment they can see working.

Popular booth sizes at Farwest Show

Farwest sells space in 10×10 units, and the floor is mostly 10×10 and 10×20 row booths and endcaps, with islands for the larger nurseries and suppliers. Growers typically take a 10×20 or an endcap with planted beds; for big specimen stock or an automation demo we recommend stepping up to a 20×20 island.

04 Designing for nursery growers, plant breeders and horticulture suppliers at Farwest Show

Four things we get right for Farwest Show exhibitors

Woman horticulturist working with green potted plants in a greenhouse1

Keep the aisle edge low

Farwest limits solid display material to 4 feet within 2 feet of the aisle, with no height limit behind that (2026 rules). We put low beds and see-through plant material at the front and build the height, tall trees and signage further back, so the booth reads from the aisle and passes the floor check.

Plan for big, heavy plant material

Balled and burlapped trees and large containers are heavy and awkward. We design hidden plinths and floor protection, schedule forklift moves with Fern Expo, and send advance notice for every oversized piece, so a specimen tree reaches the floor during the August 23–24 move-in.

3

Keep equipment demos within the rules

Show rules keep engines off during show hours, fuel tanks low and batteries disconnected. For automation and equipment suppliers we build demos around video, motion that runs on house power and staff walk-throughs, so buyers still see how the machine works.

4

Build the booth for order writing

Farwest buyers book stock for the season. We put your availability and new varieties at eye level, give reps a table out of the traffic flow, and leave room for a second pair of staff to walk the aisles, as busy nurseries do.

Logistics for Farwest Show 2027, handled

Fern Expo is the Farwest general service contractor, handling drayage, the advance warehouse, forklift work, furniture and labor through its online ordering. The Oregon Convention Center is the exclusive source for electricity, compressed air, water fill-up and drain, natural gas, internet and audio visual. Heavy stock means forklift scheduling and advance notice for oversized pieces, and pipe and drape is never a place to hang weight. Move-in runs Monday, August 23, from 10 am to 6 pm and Tuesday, August 24, from 8 am to 8 pm, when every booth must be finished. We file the Fern Expo and convention center orders, ship on target and install with our own project manager and vetted local labor.

Farwest Show exhibitor questions

Questions exhibitors ask us before Farwest Show

How much does a booth at the Farwest Show 2027 cost?

Our 10×20 rentals run $7,500 to $15,000, and a custom 20×20 island runs $50,000 to $120,000. At Farwest, plinths for balled and burlapped trees, forklift moves and lighting move the number. Space is billed by OAN at $1,395 per 10×10 for members, and services by Fern Expo and the convention center.

When do we need to sign off on our Farwest Show booth?

We need design sign-off by mid-June 2027. That gives us 30 to 45 days to build, time to flag oversized pieces with Fern Expo and an early August ship date to the advance warehouse, so the booth and plant material are staged during the August 23–24 move-in.

Can we rent a booth for the Farwest Show, and what does a rental include?

Yes. A rental includes the frame and back wall, your printed graphics, lighting, an order table, shipping, install and dismantle. We add custom plant beds and hidden plinths sized to your stock, and many nurseries keep those pieces in storage for Cultivate and other horticulture shows.

How tall can our Farwest display be at the aisle?

Solid display material stays at 4 feet or lower within 2 feet of the aisle, and there is no height limit behind that line. We plan the planting in layers: low, see-through material at the front, specimen trees and the graphic wall toward the back of the booth.

Can we run equipment in our Farwest booth?

Engines stay off during show hours, fuel tanks are kept low and batteries are disconnected. Automation suppliers still show motion: we build demos that run on convention center power, add looping video of the machine working in a nursery, and stage the equipment so buyers can climb in and touch the controls.

What does drayage cost at Farwest and who pays it?

Fern Expo bills material handling to the exhibitor on its tariff, by weight, and forklift time for heavy trees is ordered separately. We weigh every crate and plinth, combine the booth into one shipment to the advance warehouse, and put the drayage and forklift estimate on our proposal before you sign.

Can we reuse the booth at other shows?

Yes. Nursery and horticulture exhibitors take the same kit to Cultivate in Columbus and to either the Nursery/Landscape Expo in Houston or The Landscape Show in Orlando, which run on the same August dates. We build in aluminum frame with fabric graphics, store the booth between shows and reprint only what changes.

Do you handle Fern Expo and Oregon Convention Center orders?

We place your Fern Expo orders for drayage, forklifts, furniture and labor, file the advance notice for oversized stock, and order electricity, water fill-up and drain or compressed air from the Oregon Convention Center, so one proposal covers both sets of charges.

Before you sign with anyone

Five questions to ask any exhibit builder for Farwest Show:

  1. Is every fee on the proposal, including what the show contractor bills?
  2. Who builds the booth: your own shop or a subcontractor?
  3. Will your project manager be on the floor for install and dismantle?
  4. What exactly is in the rental, and what is billed by the show?
  5. Where does the booth go after the show, and what does storage cost?

Common situations

Already own a booth? We refresh the graphics, repair what is worn, ship it, install it and store it between shows. You keep the structure you paid for.

Exhibiting from outside the US? We are your team on the ground: freight to the advance warehouse, show-service orders, installation and storage, with one project manager answering your emails in your time zone.

Short on time? A rental with your graphics can be ready in two to three weeks. We tell you on the first call what is realistic for your date.
