What makes Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show different, and how we build for it
The Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show, produced by Emerald, calls itself the only B2B marketplace dedicated to collegiate and professional sports merchandise.Licensors including CLC, NASCAR, NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL are represented, and buyers range from Fanatics, Target and Sam's Club to Follett and Barnes & Noble College bookstores, with more than 120 college licensing departments there in 2025. Most deals start with a license: brands meet licensing officials and retail buyers in the same aisle. The License to Buy coupon program rewards buyers for orders written at the show, the New Product Zone spotlights launches, and selling merchandise from the booth is banned outright.
Licensed apparel, headwear, drinkware and tailgate gear grouped by league and team, case packs and price points clear, and an order desk to write a License to Buy order.
Product shown with their marks done right, proof of a current license or a clear path to one, and a seat to talk royalty, approvals and local-vendor programs.
Assortments that ship fast for game-day spikes, drop-ship terms, and product photography they can use, ideally shot in the booth.
Your team in Las Vegas
Two shops behind your Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show booth
Production happens in our own shop in Fishkill, NY, and at our Las Vegas hub, and we ship to the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall (Upper Level) and install with vetted local labor, led by our own project manager on the floor. Turnaround is a predictable 30 to 45 days, with pre-show QA and secure storage for your Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show booth.

Inside Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show 2027
Rules that shape your Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show booth
Selling merchandise from the booth is strictly prohibited, and sold display items stay until after the final close, escorted out by the exhibitor (2027 manual). We build lockable storage so samples stay out of reach and off the counters.
Hanging signs belong only to island, split island and peninsula spaces measuring 400 square feet or larger, up to 25 feet with a 5-foot gap and 20-foot combined height; variances are due November 18, 2026. We draw and file them.
Booths of 400 square feet or more may use sound equipment, aimed into the booth and under 80 decibels at the aisle; fog, smoke and steam machines are banned (2027 manual). We spec quiet, directional audio.
Exhibitors may not display products that promote another company, bridge an aisle without permission, or use strolling advertising outside the booth; repeat violations cost priority points. We keep every graphic inside your space.
Covered areas of 300 square feet or more and all multi-level exhibits need a plan sealed by a registered architect or engineer, plus flame-retardant certificates, 60 days before move-in. We commission and file them.
Programs worth planning for
A $975 coupon in the show directory that rewards buyers with money back on orders written at the show; 115 exhibitors and 175 retailers took part in 2026.
A $835 display spot for new items that drives buyers from the zone to your booth.
Bundled online, print and onsite exposure for exhibitors, alongside sponsorships and free marketing tools in the Exhibitor Hub.
SLATS is the only U.S. trade show built solely for licensed sports and collegiate merchandise; choose it over Licensing Expo when your buyers are fan shops, mass retailers and college bookstores rather than brand licensors shopping for properties. Compare every consumer products show we build for →

Amazon at ESSENCE Festival of Culture, New Orleans
For Amazon’s first ESSENCE Festival activation, a walk-through environment that welcomed hundreds of thousands of attendees across Prime Video, Amazon Live and Alexa.
Amazon's ESSENCE Festival build turned brand properties into a space fans walked through; licensed sports brands at SLATS need the same, team marks presented so buyers feel the fan demand.

04 Designing for licensed sports apparel, collectibles, gift and tailgate brands at Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show
Four things we get right for Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show exhibitors
1Merchandise it like a fan shop
SLATS buyers picture your product on their own fixtures, from a mass retailer's fan wall to a campus bookstore. We build slatwall and gondola runs by league and team, with tailgate gear shown in use, so a bookstore buyer finds their school's marks and a mass buyer sees the planogram.
2Hanging signs at 400 square feet
Signs may hang only over island, split island and peninsula spaces of at least 400 square feet, up to 25 feet, with a 5-foot gap and a 20-foot combined limit. Freeman does all rigging, and variances for 26 to 30 feet are due November 18, 2026. We draw the sign and place the rigging order.
3No selling, so plan storage
Selling merchandise from the booth is banned and display items sold cannot leave until after the Friday close. We build closed storage for sample stock and pack-out boxes, keeping your inventory off the counters and your team focused on writing orders.
4Sound and lights stay inside
Only booths of 400 square feet or more may use sound equipment, kept under 80 decibels at the aisle, and lighting must point into the booth, not at neighbors. Fog, smoke and steam machines are banned. We aim LED fixtures at product and keep game-day video quiet.
Floor at a glance
Where you could be at Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show 2027
SLATS 2027 fills the Upper Level of the LVCC South Hall, with white pipe and drape, no aisle carpet and booth types from inline to island.
South Hall, Upper Level
The 2027 show floor, open January 20–22; aisles are not carpeted, so every booth brings or orders its own flooring.
Our advice We include flooring in every SLATS quote and pick a color that reads as a store floor under your fixtures.
Inline, corner and perimeter rows
10-foot-deep booths in 10-foot multiples with 8-foot white back drape and 3-foot side rails; perimeter booths against the wall go to 12 feet.
Our advice Build 3 inches inside each shared side for the divider drape and cables, and finish any wall above the drape line.
Peninsulas, split islands and islands
Typically 20×20 or larger, with a 20-foot combined height and hanging signs allowed at 400 square feet; graphics set back 5 feet from neighbors.
Our advice Islands of 20×20 and up move in from 8 a.m. Monday, January 18, so we schedule install labor for that window.

Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show exhibitor questions
Questions exhibitors ask us before Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show
When is the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show 2027?
SLATS 2027 runs Wednesday, January 20 to Friday, January 22, 2027 in Las Vegas. The hall opens at 9 a.m. daily and shuts at 5 p.m. midweek, 2 p.m. on the final Friday, with badge pickup from Monday, January 18. The 2028 show is set for January 26 to 28, 2028.
Where is the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show held?
On the Upper Level of the Las Vegas Convention Center's South Hall, 3150 Paradise Road. Hotels are booked through EvolveCon on the HotelMap platform, and SLATS runs no shuttle, so stay within walking distance or use rideshare, the Vegas Loop or the Monorail station at the convention center.
How much does a booth at the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show cost?
Emerald quotes SLATS booth space through its sales director rather than publishing rates. On the build side, a 10×20 inline rental from us runs $7,500 to $15,000 and a custom 20×20 island $50,000 to $120,000. License to Buy placement adds $975 and a New Product Zone entry $835.
Who attends the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show?
Qualified retail buyers from mass, specialty, department, sporting goods, gift and online stores, plus college bookstores and licensing departments. Retailers on the 2026 list included Amazon, Fanatics, Target, Sam's Club, Hot Topic and TJX, and more than 120 college licensing departments attended in 2025.
Is the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show open to the public?
SLATS is a trade event and not open to the public. Retailers must prove their business with two documents, such as invoices for multiple licensed products, a business license or a resale permit, and licensing staff show a university page or business card. Children under 16 are not allowed on the floor.
Can we sell merchandise at our SLATS booth?
Selling from the booth during the show is strictly prohibited. Display items sold to a buyer stay on the floor until after the Friday close, and the exhibitor must escort the purchaser out and clear them with security. Plan for orders, not cash sales.
What is the deadline to use our own booth builder at SLATS?
The EAC/I&D form, with the contractor's certificate of insurance, is due in the SLATS Exhibitor Console by November 18, 2026, the same date as hanging-sign variance requests. Show management also needs the certificate at least 30 days before installation. We file both for you.
Can our staff set up our booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center?
Nevada is a right-to-work state, and SLATS lets full-time employees set their own exhibits, but they may not use powered or mechanical equipment. Any labor you hire must come through Freeman or a registered EAC, and forklifts are Freeman only.
Can we have a hanging sign at SLATS?
Signs may hang only over island, split island and peninsula spaces measuring at least 400 square feet, topping out at 25 feet from the floor with a 5-foot gap above the structure and a 20-foot combined height. Linear and end-cap booths cannot hang signs, and Freeman handles all rigging.
When do we ship freight for SLATS 2027?
Freeman's advance warehouse in Las Vegas accepts crated, boxed or skidded freight from December 18, 2026, with an after-deadline charge for anything arriving after January 13, 2027. It refuses uncrated or pad-wrapped freight, and every carrier checks in at Freeman's marshalling yard first.
Can we rent a booth for the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show?
From our Las Vegas hub we rent SLATS booths from 10×20 inlines to islands: fabric graphic walls, slatwall and gondolas for licensed product, counters, storage closets, lighting and flooring. Freeman freight plus the install and dismantle, run by your Purple project manager, sit on one fixed proposal.
What is License to Buy at SLATS?
License to Buy is a coupon program: for $975 exhibitors place an offer in the show directory, and buyers get money back on orders written at the show. In 2026, 115 exhibitors and 175 retailers took part, writing $23 million+ in orders with $120,800 in rewards paid out.
How many badges do SLATS exhibitors get?
Each company receives six badges per 10×10 booth, registered through the welcome email sent to your contract contact. EAC crews pick up a daily wristband at an EAC check-in area, and badged exhibitors may enter two hours before opening on show days.
Is the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show worth exhibiting at?
For licensees and brands seeking licenses it puts league and collegiate licensing staff and buyers from 1,100 storefronts, per SLATS, in one hall. One exhibitor quoted by SLATS says it requested nine new licenses at the show. The return comes from orders and license meetings, not walk-up sales.
