What makes Sea Otter Classic different, and how we build for it
The Life Time Sea Otter Classic began as the Laguna Seca Challenge in 1991 and is now a four-day public cycling festival with 14 races, Gran Fondos, the Brompton World Championship and a Trail Run around WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The Sea Otter Expo sits in the lakebed with 1,100+ brands, and riders take demo bikes to the Family Zone, Off-Road Zone, a Track Zone on the raceway and a Road Zone. Trade business runs alongside: Industry Connect gives approved retailers and solution providers free festival passes and an Industry Hub for meetings. Exhibits are outdoor tents and structures, so coastal wind, county permits and Sunday's staggered move-out shape every booth.

We build in our own production shop in Fishkill, NY, and our Las Vegas hub, ship to the Laguna Seca Recreation Area (WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca), and install with our own project manager on the floor and vetted local labor. Builds take a predictable 30 to 45 days, with secure storage and pre-show QA.

Inside Sea Otter Classic 2027
Rules that shape your Sea Otter Classic booth
Every truss structure, and every structure or tent over 400 square feet, needs plans stamped by a California-licensed structural engineer under the 2025 California Building Code, due February 5, 2027. We commission and file those drawings.
Staking is banned in the Expo, tents must be weighted inside the footprint, lowered each night and in high wind, and meet the California State Fire Marshal flame standard by April 1, 2027. We supply ballast and certified fabric.
Only vendors on Sea Otter's 2027 Approved Vendor List get Expo access, and others must be cleared with show management before April 2, 2027. We register the install crew so deliveries and install are not turned away at the gate.
Sea Otter is a family event: booth staff must dress appropriately, amplified sound must not bother neighbors, and signs or flags outside your space are discarded. We keep flags, music and activations inside your footprint.
Booths must be staffed during Expo hours and may not be dismantled before the 2 p.m. Sunday close; vehicles then enter by area color from 2 to 6 p.m. We schedule the teardown crew to your color window.

Sea Otter Expo spaces are outdoor footprints in the lakebed sold by the 10×10, with canopies rented in 10×10 increments. Accessory and nutrition brands usually run a 10×10 or 10×20 canopy; bike and e-bike brands with demo fleets take 20×20 to 20×30 and larger spaces, which must move in early and, above 400 square feet, need stamped plans.

Logistics for Sea Otter Classic 2027, handled
There is no receiving at Laguna Seca: every shipment goes through TriCord Tradeshow Services, which stores freight up to 30 days before the event and delivers it to your space, and direct shipments to the venue are refused. Move-in runs Monday, April 12 to Wednesday, April 14, 2027, with booths over 20×30 or with a vehicle or trailer setting up Monday or Tuesday, and all entry is through South Boundary Road. During the festival vehicles may enter only from 6:30 to 8:45 a.m. Our project manager and a vetted crew set your space, and on Sunday we hand-carry from 2 p.m. until your color-coded vehicle window opens.

The Life Time Sea Otter Classic runs April 15 to 18, 2027, Thursday to Sunday. The Expo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, and exhibitor move-in runs April 12 to 14. Life Time lists April 20 to 23, 2028 for the following edition.
Where is the Sea Otter Classic held?
At the Laguna Seca Recreation Area, home of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, 1021 Monterey Salinas Highway near Monterey, California. The Expo sits in the lakebed, and for 2027 exhibitors enter only through South Boundary Road, not the A Road gate most navigation apps suggest.
How many people attend the Sea Otter Classic?
Life Time counts more than 9,000 athletes and 74,000 fans at the festival and more than 1,100 brands in the Sea Otter Expo. The event began in 1991 as the Laguna Seca Challenge with 350 athletes and 150 spectators, and took the Sea Otter name in 1993.
Is the Sea Otter Classic open to the public?
It is, and that is its point: Sea Otter is a public cycling festival with races, rides, a Trail Run and kids' racing, sold through festival passes. Trade visitors come through Industry Connect, which gives approved retailers, solution providers and cycling service companies a complimentary four-day pass and Industry Hub access.
How much does it cost to exhibit at the Sea Otter Classic?
Life Time quotes Expo space through its sales team rather than publishing a rate card. On top of space, budget for canopy rentals in 10×10 increments, 15-amp power units, TriCord material handling, storage containers and Sea Otter Club passes at $325 for one day or $875 for four days. We quote the structure, graphics and freight on a fixed proposal.
Do we need permits for a booth at the Sea Otter Classic?
Monterey County permits and inspects temporary structures of any size, and every truss structure or structure over 400 square feet, tents included, needs plans stamped by a California-licensed structural engineer by February 5, 2027. All exhibitors upload a booth layout by March 15, and food sampling needs a county health permit.
Can we stake our tent at the Sea Otter Expo?
Staking is not allowed anywhere in the Expo. Tents and signage must be held down with water barrels, concrete blocks or sandbags inside your footprint, lowered each night and during high winds, and certified flame resistant by the California State Fire Marshal standard, with the certificate due April 1, 2027.
How do we ship to the Sea Otter Classic?
Everything ships through TriCord Tradeshow Services, because Laguna Seca has no staff or area to receive shipments and refuses direct deliveries. TriCord stores freight up to 30 days before the event and places it in your space, and from noon on Sunday, April 18 it collects outbound freight, with a 25% late fee on late paperwork.
Can we sell bikes or products at the Sea Otter Expo?
Sales are allowed with a California seller's permit or a temporary sub-permit from the CDTFA, applied for between January 15 and April 1, 2027; international exhibitors need one too. Giving away or selling any food or drink, even packaged, also needs a Monterey County health permit, and glass is banned.
Can we offer demo rides at the Sea Otter Classic?
Exhibitors can demo bikes after filing Sea Otter's demo form, providing their own rider waiver and meeting safety standards. Riders use the Family Zone, the Off-Road Zone with three loops, a Track Zone on 1.7 miles of the raceway and a Road Zone, and ANSI-approved helmets are mandatory.
Can we serve beer at our Sea Otter booth?
Only beer and wine are permitted, and only through Sea Otter's own beverage services: drink tickets in packets of 50 or hosted parties with a minimum of 50 servings and a hired server. Every activation with alcohol must be reported to Sea Otter before March 26, 2027.
When do exhibitors move in for the Sea Otter Classic?
Move-in runs Monday, April 12 to Wednesday, April 14, 2027, and everyone must be set by the end of Wednesday. Spaces larger than 20×30, or with a vehicle or trailer, must set up Monday or Tuesday. During the festival, vehicles may enter only from 6:30 to 8:45 a.m. and leave by 9 a.m.
Can we rent a booth for the Sea Otter Classic?
We rent outdoor kits for Sea Otter: wind-rated canopy frames with printed walls, weighted flags and signage, demo counters and bike racks. When a space passes 400 square feet we commission the drawings from a California-licensed structural engineer. Freight runs through TriCord, and the kit returns to our storage after the Sunday load-out.
Is the Sea Otter Classic worth it for a cycling brand?
For brands selling bikes, e-bikes and gear, it puts thousands of riders on your product in one weekend while dealers and media attend through Industry Connect. SRAM calls it summer camp for the bike industry. The return depends on a demo fleet, a weather-proof space and booked dealer meetings in the Industry Hub.
