What makes The Running Event different, and how we build for it
The Running Event, launched in 2006 and produced by Diversified Communications, is the run specialty channel's own trade show. Its rhythm is fixed: a conference day with the hall closed, then two exhibit days with Training Camp Theater sessions on the floor, a show-floor happy hour and the Best Running Stores honors at the Industry Awards Dinner. Switchback at TRE, now in its fifth year, gives outdoor specialty retailers and brands their own area of the hall. Buyers are owners and general managers from shops such as Fleet Feet, Pacers Running and Brooklyn Running Company, and 75% of 2025's attending retailers held a buying title.
Next season's shoes to try on and run in, fit and gait conversation with a rep who knows lasts and stack heights, and reorder terms they can sign on the second hall day.
Trail footwear, packs and apparel that cross over from run to hike, shown next to peers who stock both, with sell-through stories from similar shops.
Timing, nutrition, medals and finish-line services they can see at working scale, with pricing per runner and contacts for race-day logistics.
Your team in San Antonio
Two shops and one project manager for The Running Event
We build in our own production shop in Fishkill, NY, and our Las Vegas hub, ship to the venue, and install with our own project manager on the floor and vetted local labor. A predictable 30–45-day turnaround, secure storage and a pre-show QA before The Running Event.
The booth is lit and stocked when your team reaches the venue. You just show up.
Inside The Running Event 2027
Rules that shape your Running Event booth
TRE's schedule keeps the exhibit hall closed to attendees on the Tuesday conference day, opening it only for the two trade show days (2026 schedule). We finish install before then, so your team can attend sessions and still open on time.
Each booth includes an 8-foot back drape, 3-foot side rail drape and a 7×44-inch ID sign under the exhibitor agreement (2026 package). We hang graphics on our own frames in front of the drape and plan around the included sign.
TRE issues two exhibitor badges per 100 square feet of booth space, so a 10×20 gets four (2026 package). We plan fittings and appointments around the staff your badge count allows.
onPeak is the only official hotel provider endorsed by TRE 2026, and TRE warns against third-party housing callers. We book crew rooms through the official block so our project manager stays close to the hall.
Programs worth planning for
A dedicated area of the exhibit hall for outdoor specialty brands and retailers, in its fifth year in 2026, with outdoor education and a Switchback Social on the floor.
Education sessions held on the trade show floor throughout both hall days, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on day one in 2026, which pull store staff past nearby booths.
TRE's yearly recognition of run specialty retailers, honored at the Industry Awards Dinner; 65 stores were named 2026 honorees.
The Running Event is the U.S. run specialty channel's own trade show, with 357 exhibitors in 2025; choose it over Outdoor Retailer when your buyers are running store owners and race directors rather than outdoor gear shops. Every consumer products show we build for, side by side →

Case study · Jack & Pup
Jack & Pup at a pet industry trade show
A booth shaped as a full dog house, instantly understood, easy to step inside and busy all show long.
Jack & Pup drew crowds with a booth visitors could step into and understand at once; TRE buyers need the same, walking in to try a shoe instead of reading about it.
Read the Jack & Pup case study All case studies →“Purple Exhibits made us look good. The booth was one of the nicest displays in our section of the convention center and generated a lot of positive comments from both customers and industry peers. Their attention to detail, professionalism, and willingness to go above and beyond made a huge difference.”

04 Designing for running footwear, apparel, nutrition, wearables and outdoor brands at The Running Event
Four things we get right for The Running Event exhibitors
1Two hall days decide the show
TRE keeps the exhibit hall closed on its opening conference day, then opens it for two days: 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in 2026. We design for peak hours and pre-booked fittings, with a counter that can turn three store owners an hour into written orders.
2Let them run in it
Run specialty buyers judge a shoe by wearing it. We build try-on benches with shoe-wall storage behind, a short rubber test strip or treadmill platform, and a screen for gait or pressure data, so a store owner feels the ride before talking price.
3Switchback needs a trail look
Outdoor specialty retailers walk Switchback at TRE, now in its fifth year, looking for crossover trail product. If your line sits there, we swap the road-race graphics for trail imagery, natural textures and pack or hydration displays that read to an outfitter.
4Built for theater-adjacent traffic
Training Camp Theater sessions run all day on the trade show floor and the Exhibit Hall Happy Hour fills the aisles at 5 p.m. We give booths near those zones an open front, a sampling counter for nutrition brands and a clear aisle-side logo above the crowd.

Logistics for The Running Event 2027, handled
Where TRE lands in 2027 is not confirmed yet. The 2025 and 2026 editions use the Henry B. González Convention Center on San Antonio's River Walk, with onPeak as the only official hotel provider, and TRE sells every booth with drape walls (8 feet at the back, 3-foot rails at the sides) and a 7×44-inch ID sign. Once the 2027 exhibitor kit names the contractor and advance warehouse, we follow its labor rules, ship there and run install with our own project manager and vetted crews from that city. Shoe walls, benches and treadmill platforms travel in our crates with weights recorded for material handling.

- Contractor orders and freight to the 2027 advance warehouse

The Running Event exhibitor questions
Questions exhibitors ask us before The Running Event
When is The Running Event 2027?
The 2027 dates are not confirmed yet; Diversified Communications has published only the 2026 edition, December 1 to 3, 2026. December 1 is the conference day, and the exhibit hall is open December 2 and 3. We update this page as soon as TRE posts its 2027 dates.
Where is The Running Event held?
TRE has not named its 2027 city or venue. TRE 2025 was the event's first year in San Antonio, and TRE 2026 returns to the Henry B. González Convention Center on the River Walk. Earlier editions were held elsewhere, so we plan freight only once the 2027 host city is announced.
How much does a booth at The Running Event cost?
TRE's 2026 space prices are $3,500 for a 10×10, $7,000 for a 10×20, $14,000 for a 20×20 and $31,500 for a 30×30, about $35 per square foot. A 10×20 rental from us runs $7,500 to $15,000 on top of that, and a custom 20×20 island $50,000 to $120,000.
What comes with a booth at The Running Event?
In 2026 every TRE booth includes an 8-foot back drape, 3-foot side rail drape, a 7×44-inch booth ID sign, a listing on the event website and app, and two exhibitor badges per 100 square feet. Flooring, furniture, power and lighting are ordered separately, which we handle.
What are The Running Event exhibit hall hours?
The 2027 hours are not confirmed yet. In 2026 the exhibit hall is open Wednesday, December 2, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Thursday, December 3, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and it is closed to attendees on Tuesday's conference day.
How many people attend The Running Event?
TRE 2025 drew 1,617 specialty retailers, event management and industry professionals and 357 exhibiting companies on 99,723 square feet, 10% more space than 2024 and the largest show in TRE's history. Some 75% of attending retailers held owner, president, VP, general manager or buyer titles.
Who exhibits at The Running Event?
Running footwear, apparel, hosiery, nutrition, injury prevention, recovery, technology, timing and fixtures companies, with outdoor brands in Switchback at TRE. Brands at TRE 2025 included Brooks, lululemon, Patagonia, Bombas and Cotopaxi, and Fabletics debuts in 2026.
What is Switchback at TRE?
Switchback is an area of the TRE exhibit hall for outdoor specialty retailers and brands, in its fifth year in 2026, with its own education and a Switchback Social at the Training Camp Theater. Its standalone sibling, Switchback Spring, runs May 22 to 24, 2027 in New Orleans.
Can we rent a booth for The Running Event?
We rent TRE booths from a 10×20 up: fabric graphic walls, shoe-wall shelving, try-on benches, counters, lighting and flooring, with an optional treadmill or test-strip platform. We quote freight, install and dismantle together at a fixed price, and the kit returns to our storage once the hall closes.
Is The Running Event open to the public?
TRE is an industry event: passes are sold to run and outdoor specialty retailers, event management professionals, industry members and media. It is not a consumer race expo, so booths should sell to store owners and buyers rather than to individual runners.
How do we get a booth at The Running Event?
Contact TRE's sales manager at Diversified Communications to reserve space and build a package; the 2026 fact sheet lists booth prices and says larger spaces are available on request. Booth assignments for 2027 open once TRE announces the dates and city.
Where do exhibitors stay for The Running Event?
For 2026, onPeak is TRE's only official hotel provider, with discounted rooms near the convention center and flexible change and cancellation policies. TRE warns that other housing companies are not endorsed. The 2027 housing provider is not confirmed yet.
Is The Running Event worth exhibiting at?
For brands selling into run specialty stores it is the channel's own yearly trade show, and TRE 2025 was the largest in its 19-year history by TRE's count. With only two hall days, the return comes from pre-booked store appointments and a booth built for fast try-ons.
Before you sign with anyone
Five things to ask every builder quoting The Running Event:
- Are all fees on paper, including what the contractor at the venue bills?
- Does your own shop build the booth, or do you subcontract it?
- Will your project manager be on the floor at the venue for install and dismantle?
- What is inside the rental price, and what is billed by the show?
- Once The Running Event closes, where does the booth go and what does storage cost?
Common situations
Already own a booth? We refresh the graphics, repair what is worn, ship it to the venue, install it and store it between shows. You keep using the structure you already paid for.
Exhibiting from outside the US? We are your team on the ground: freight to the advance warehouse, show-service orders, installation and storage, with one project manager answering your emails in your time zone.
Short on time? A rental with your graphics can be ready for The Running Event in two to three weeks. We tell you on the first call what is realistic before Running Event.
