06 BUILT LIKE A SET, NOT A STAND

Broadcast and pro AV trade show booth ideas Light it like a stage. Run it like a show.

Media and AV buyers judge a booth the way they judge a production: the light, the screen, the sound, the flow. Here are real booths we built for streaming, software, retail tech, fiber-optic and marine electronics companies, and what fits in every booth size.

Apartment List · Purple Exhibits

Build sets people want to walk into.

House-shaped structures edged in LED light hold a screen and a sofa inside, a pink carpet and armchairs make a lounge in front, and a purple hanging sign carries the brand over the whole space.

LeadSquared booth by Purple Exhibits with a round hanging sign, three blue demo walls with screens, lounge seating and high tables03 / THE DEMO STATIONS

LeadSquared · Purple Exhibits

Three screens. One sign overhead.

A round hanging sign marks the booth from across the hall, three blue walls each carry a screen and one message for the software demo, and white lounge seating and high tables between them keep every conversation on the floor.

data-pixel · Purple Exhibits

Put the instrument on a lit counter.

Fiber-optic inspection instruments sit on two lit counters with screens showing the measurements, a dark backlit wall carries the application, and high tables in the middle keep the engineers talking at the bench.

Barantech · Purple Exhibits

Wire the whole system to one wall.

A backlit wall carries every module of the connected system, mounted and switched on, above a helm counter with live control panels. Blue LED light runs under the counter and a kiosk with a screen stands at the aisle.

Easy Shopper booth by Purple Exhibits with lime green backlit walls, smart shopping carts with tablets and a shelf of screens, team in front06 / THE LIGHT BOX

Easy Shopper · Purple Exhibits

Light the claim. Park the product in front of it.

Two lime green backlit fabric walls carry the brand, the store count and a map of the installs, the smart carts stand on the carpet with their tablets switched on, and a shelf unit at the side holds screens with the live data.

Blocked and lit, by booth size

What fits in each broadcast or pro AV booth size, laid out four ways.

The single camera10×20

200 sq ft. Room for one hero screen and a real seat for the buyer.

On the floor plan
A back wall with the brand and one screen or a small LED panel, a demo counter with power and a wired data drop, a headphone listening station, a two-seat table, lockable storage and two to three staff.
Best for
Accessory, plug-in and software makers, startups past the prototype zone, audio brands at NAMM and AES and suppliers at NAB Show New York.
Good to know
Where the show sells tabletops, Innovation Zone booths or sponsor packages only, as at the HPA Tech Retreat, the SVG Summit and the SMPTE summit, we build graphics, counters, displays and lighting for that space instead.

The product run10×30

300 sq ft, usually inline. A full run of the range.

On the floor plan
Screens or product plinths along the back wall grouped by series, a demo counter at each end, a dark corner for a display demo, storage and three to five staff.
Best for
Display and projector makers showing several sizes, microphone and monitor brands showing a range and camera accessory makers showing a catalog.
Good to know
Group the wall the way buyers spec: by application, by size or by price tier, with the model number and the key spec on every product.

The studio island20×20

400 sq ft, often an island open on all sides.

On the floor plan
An LED wall or large screen on one face, demo stations on the others, a small set with a camera position or a listening room, a closed meeting room for dealers and integrators, a hanging sign where permitted and four to eight staff.
Best for
Established brands launching at NAB Show and InfoComm, cinema technology at CinemaCon and lighting makers at LDI.
Good to know
Decide early where the power, data and rigging land. LED walls, servers and moving lights draw far more than a screen, and floor ports are set before the carpet goes down.

The full production20×30+

600 sq ft and up. A studio on the show floor.

On the floor plan
The full range on every face, a stage or theater with seating, an LED wall flown from the rig, two or more meeting rooms, a lounge for key accounts, a storage room for demo units and a hanging sign.
Best for
Groups with several product lines, companies running presentations and live productions on the floor and brands meeting dealers from many countries.
Good to know
Plan the rigging plot, the LED wall weight, the stage sightlines, the sound spill and the meeting room schedule before the drawings are final. Flown screens and hanging signs need the hall’s approval.

A good AV booth works like a good set: one hero screen, light that flatters the product, sound that stays in your space and a room where the conversation can close. We’ll plan the rig, the drops and the layout together. Get a fixed proposal

08 EVERY COMPANY HAD A FIRST DEMO

Broadcast and AV shows for startups & first-time exhibitors Your first U.S. show. Your first integrator.

Young display, camera and media workflow companies often start in a prototype zone or a tabletop, where a small footprint and a working demo meet the same engineers as a large booth. Here’s how to get in, with the source for every rule.

Displays

Display Week 2027

How to get in

  • Enter the I-Zone with a prototype, proof of concept or a product on the market no more than six months before the show; apply by April 16, 2027.

Programs for new companies

MAKE IT A SHOW, NOT JUST A SHELF

A beam.
A signal that holds.
A reason to book the meeting.

The screen gets them to stop. Light aimed the right way, a clean signal path, sound kept inside your space and a closed room to talk volume give an integrator, a broadcast engineer or a lighting designer a reason to start the project.

09 STAND BY. YOU’RE ON.

How to exhibit at a broadcast or pro AV trade show Light the product. Then close the door.

AV and media shows run on screens, sound and signal, in halls full of other screens, sound and signal. Let’s break it into manageable pieces: the screen, the sound, the signal, the rig, the meeting room, Las Vegas in April, the freight and labor, and the follow-up.

01THE SCREENSize the LED wall to the aisle.
  • Pick the pixel pitch for the distance: A fine pitch looks sharp at a counter; a coarser pitch is enough for a wall read from across the aisle.
  • Control the light: Show halls are bright. Shade a display demo and keep colored stage light off any screen you want buyers to judge.
  • Run one loop: The product name, what it does and where to stand for the live demo, readable in three seconds.
  • Bring the spec: Brightness, pitch and viewing distance printed beside the screen, so an integrator can bid it.
02THE SOUNDKeep the demo in your booth.

Audio is the hardest demo on a show floor: every neighbor is playing something too.

  • Book a room where the show sells one: InfoComm sells audio demo rooms beside its on-floor meeting rooms.
  • Use headphones at the counter: A row of listening stations keeps the demo clear and keeps the neighbors friendly.
  • Build it in: In a 20×20 or larger we build a closed listening room with acoustic panels and a door.
  • Know the rules: Many shows set sound limits for open booths. Ask for them before you plan a loud demo.
03THE SIGNALWire every demo that needs a network.
  • Order a wired line: Show WiFi carries thousands of phones, so IP video, AV-over-IP and cloud demos get a hard line from the hall’s internet provider.
  • Bring your own switch: A labeled rack with the switch, the encoders and spare cables keeps the demo network yours.
  • Check the radio rules: Many halls restrict wireless microphones, in-ear systems and exhibitor WiFi. Ask the show before you ship anything that transmits.
  • Record a backup: A recorded version of the demo on a local drive, ready if the line drops.
04THE RIGGet the flown pieces approved early.
  • Plan the rigging plot: Hanging signs, flown LED walls and truss need the hall’s approval and certified points. We include them in the drawings.
  • Know the weight: LED panels, processors and moving lights add up. The weight sets the rigging and the floor load.
  • Count the power: Walls, servers and fixtures draw far more than a screen. Order the electrical at advance rates.
  • Haze with care: Lighting demos look best in haze. Ask the show what it allows before you plan the cue.
05THE MEETING ROOMGive dealers a door that closes.

Pricing, territories, bids and NDAs do not belong at the counter. A closed room inside the booth, or a meeting space booked from the show, keeps those talks private.

  • Book it from the show: InfoComm sells on-floor meeting rooms from $8,850 (10×10) to $18,500 (20×20) for member exhibitors in 2027, and NAB Show offers meeting space and a Corporate Content Studio on the floor.
  • Build it in: In a 20×20 or larger we build a meeting room with a door, a screen and a table for six.
  • Schedule it: Book dealer and integrator meetings before the show and keep a calendar at the counter.
06LAS VEGAS IN APRILPlan NAB Show and CinemaCon as one trip.
  • Two shows, eight days apart: NAB Show 2027 runs April 4–7 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and CinemaCon runs April 12–15 at Caesars Palace, with its trade show on two days.
  • Pay on time: Full payment for NAB Show 2027 space is due December 1, 2026, per NAB.
  • Budget material handling: NAB Show 2027 requires fixed-rate material handling at $4.10 to $4.21 per sq ft, per NAB.
  • From our Las Vegas shop: Our Las Vegas shop builds and prints, so booths for NAB Show, CinemaCon and LDI are staged close to the halls.
07THE FREIGHT & LABORCount back from the warehouse date.
  • Count back from the warehouse deadline: Every general contractor publishes a date when freight must reach the advance warehouse. Our builds take 30 to 45 days, so we work back from that date.
  • Build it here: We build in our Fishkill, NY shop and our Las Vegas shop, so the booth does not cross an ocean; 20% of InfoComm 2026 attendees came from outside the U.S., per AVIXA, and many exhibitors fly in too.
  • Know the labor rules: Big U.S. halls set who may install, rig and wire on the floor. Your Purple project manager runs the install with the labor the show requires.
  • Carry the newest units: Prototypes and launch units travel best with the team, with the papers for each unit.
08THE FOLLOW-UPSend the spec sheet before they get home.

Scan every badge with notes: the product, the room or venue, the project size and the timeline. Send spec sheets, quotes, demo loans and NDA drafts within days of the show.

Tag every lead as a broadcaster, an integrator, a consultant, a dealer, a rental house or a press contact, so follow-up reaches the right person. Track results over a full project cycle: an install specified at the booth can take a year to reach the purchase order, so measure projects opened, not only the leads.

10 THE MATH BEHIND THE RIG

Broadcast and pro AV trade show budget & ROI Clear goals. Projects you can count.

Let’s put numbers behind the plan. Add your full show budget and your own deal economics to see what breaking even could look like over a realistic sales cycle.

Budget beyond the square footage.

Space & presence
Booth space or package, design, graphics, LED walls and screens, demo counters, listening rooms, meeting rooms, flooring, furniture and lighting.
Getting there
Freight for the booth, material handling by weight, installation, rigging, dismantle and storage, and demo units carried by the team.
Running the booth
Electrical for walls, servers and fixtures, wired internet, cleaning, lead capture, spec sheets and security for high-value units.
Your people & follow-through
Sales and engineering team time, travel, show-week hotels, dealer dinners and post-show follow-up.

Get itemized quotes and an explicit contingency. LED walls, rigging, electrical, internet and labor weigh more on an AV budget than floor space, and NAB Show week hotels in Las Vegas add up fast. These categories are a planning checklist, not a price estimate.

THE EXHIBIT MATH

Let’s do the math.

An example to get you started. Change the numbers to fit your company.

Use contribution after the cost of goods and support, before show cost, not the order value. Many AV deals start with a demo loan and close at the bid, so choose one evaluation period (for example, 12 or 18 months) for every input.

We build custom booths from 10×20 inline up to 20×20 and larger islands with LED walls, listening rooms, meeting rooms and stages, each at one all-in price. Where a show sells tabletops or Innovation Zone booths, as at the HPA Tech Retreat, we build graphics, counters and displays that travel in cases.

How early should I plan an LED wall booth for NAB Show?

Start with the space contract and the payment date: full payment for NAB Show 2027 space is due December 1, 2026. Our builds take 30 to 45 days, counted back from the advance warehouse deadline, and flown LED walls and hanging signs need the hall’s rigging approval, so lock the design by early winter.

12 SPEAK FLUENT CONTROL ROOM

Broadcast and pro AV trade show glossary The crew’s vocabulary.

Pixel pitch, ST 2110, FOH, tally, rigging point. The words engineers, integrators, lighting designers and show managers use every day, in plain English, so nothing gets lost between the demo, the spec sheet and the purchase order.

Show all 26 terms

Video & broadcast

SDI
Serial digital interface: the coaxial cable standard that has carried uncompressed video around broadcast facilities for decades.
SMPTE ST 2110
The family of standards for sending video, audio and data as separate streams over an IP network, replacing SDI cabling in many new facilities.
IP video
Video carried over standard network switches and cables instead of dedicated video cabling, the main theme of many NAB Show floors.
Genlock
A shared timing signal that keeps cameras, switchers and displays in sync so cuts between sources are clean.
Production switcher
The console a director or technical director uses to cut between cameras and add graphics live; also called a vision mixer.
Tally light
The red light on a camera or studio sign that tells crew and talent which camera, or which studio, is live.
PTZ camera
A pan, tilt and zoom camera controlled remotely, common in studios, houses of worship and conference rooms.
Remote production
Producing a live event with cameras on site and the control room elsewhere, linked over a network; sports producers often call it REMI.

Display & LED

Pixel pitch
The distance between LED pixels in millimeters. A smaller pitch looks sharp up close; a larger pitch is fine for viewing from far away.
Nits
The unit of screen brightness. Show halls are bright, so displays on a booth need more nits than in an office.
MicroLED
A display built from microscopic LEDs that each make their own light, a regular topic at Display Week.
LED processor
The box that takes a video signal and maps it onto the panels of an LED wall, setting scale, color and brightness.
HDR
High dynamic range: video with brighter highlights and deeper shadows than standard video, used in broadcast, streaming and cinema.

Audio & signal

FOH
Front of house: the mixing position facing the stage where the engineer mixes what the audience hears.
AV over IP
Sending audio, video and control over a standard network, so one infrastructure serves every room in a building.
DSP
Digital signal processing: the processor that handles equalization, delay and routing for speakers and microphones in an install.
XLR
The three-pin locking connector used for microphones and balanced audio lines across pro audio and broadcast.
Stage box
A box of inputs and outputs on stage, linked to the mixing console by a single cable or network line.
RF coordination
Planning the radio frequencies of wireless microphones and in-ear monitors so they do not interfere with each other or with the venue.

Stage & lighting

Moving light
A motorized fixture that can pan, tilt and change color, beam shape and focus on cue; the core product at LDI.
Haze
A fine mist in the air that makes light beams visible, used to show lighting fixtures at their best.
Rigging point
A certified hanging point in the hall ceiling. Flown LED walls, truss and hanging signs need approved rigging points and labor.

Show floor

Priority Points
A system some shows, including InfoComm, use to rank exhibitors for space selection by their history with the show.
Material handling
The fee to move your freight from the dock or warehouse to your booth and back, charged by weight or, at NAB Show 2027, at a fixed rate per sq ft.
Turnkey booth
An organizer package with space, walls, carpet and basic furniture at one price, such as NAB Show’s Starter Turnkey.
Demo suite
A private room near the floor where a company shows its product to invited buyers, as CinemaCon offers beside its booths.
