04 BY CITY

Semiconductor and electronics trade shows by city Plan by city. One booth, two shows.

The Bay Area hosts more semiconductor events than anywhere else in the U.S.: Moscone in San Francisco, the Santa Clara Convention Center and the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. San Antonio follows with IMS and ITC, and Phoenix now hosts SEMICON West every spring. Instruments and cases cost money to ship, so pairing two shows in one city saves real freight.

Santa Clara 2 events

DesignCon (February 2–4, 2027) and Chiplet Summit (March 30–April 1, 2027), both at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

06 BUILT AROUND THE BENCH

Semiconductor and electronics trade show booth ideas Your instrument, switched on. Your engineer, leaning in.

Engineers want to see the system run, read the spec and then talk volumes behind a closed door. Here are real booths we built for marine electronics, fiber-optic instrument, power equipment and software companies, and what fits in every booth size.

Barantech booth by Purple Exhibits: a white backlit wall with every connected boat module mounted and switched on, above a helm counter with a steering wheel and live control panels01 / THE LIVE WALL

Barantech · Purple Exhibits

Wire the whole system to one wall.

Every module of the connected boat system is mounted on a white backlit wall and switched on, with its name printed beside it, above a helm counter with a steering wheel and live control panels lit in blue from below.

data-pixel · Purple Exhibits

Put the measurement on the counter.

Fiber-optic inspection instruments run on two white counters with screens showing the results, a dark backlit wall names the three measurements the tools make, and a high table in the middle keeps the engineers talking at the bench.

Kaizen Switchgear booth by Purple Exhibits with switchgear components on white plinths, printed product panels, a screen and a reception counter03 / THE PRODUCT LINE

Kaizen Switchgear · Purple Exhibits

Line up the hardware at hand height.

White plinths run along both sides with the switchgear components on top, printed panels name each product family above them, a screen sits on the back wall, and a counter with a brochure rack and a meeting table finish the space.

LeadSquared booth by Purple Exhibits with a round hanging sign, three blue walls with screens and white lounge seating04 / THE MEETING FLOOR

LeadSquared · Purple Exhibits

Three demo stations. One sign overhead.

A round hanging sign marks the booth from across the hall, three blue walls each carry a screen and one message for the software demo, and white lounge seating and high tables between them keep every conversation on the floor.

Sized to the spec, by booth size

What fits in each semiconductor or electronics booth size, laid out four ways.

The probe station10×20

200 sq ft. Room for a live instrument and a real seat for the engineer.

In the space
A back wall with the brand and one screen, a demo counter with power and a wired data drop, a lit case for wafers, chips or optics, a two-seat table, lockable storage and two to three staff.
Best for
Component, photonics and RF makers, IP and EDA companies past the 10×10 package, test and measurement brands and suppliers at the conference expos.
Good to know
Where the show sells 10×10 packages, tabletops or meeting suites, as at PCB East, Chiplet Summit, the EDS Leadership Summit and many SPIE and IEEE meetings, we build graphics, counters, cases and lighting for that space instead.

The process line10×30

300 sq ft, usually inline. A full run of the range.

In the space
Lit cases or plinths along the back wall grouped by process step or product family, a demo counter at each end, a screen for the software or the data, storage and three to five staff.
Best for
Materials and component suppliers showing a catalog, optics makers showing several product lines and EMS companies showing what they build.
Good to know
Group the wall the way engineers think: by process step, wavelength, frequency band or package type, with the part number and the key spec beside every sample.

The tool island20×20

400 sq ft, often an island open on all sides.

In the space
Demo stations on three faces, a large screen or LED wall on the fourth, a closed meeting room for NDA and pricing talks, a hanging sign where permitted and four to eight staff.
Best for
Equipment and materials makers at SEMICON West, laser and optics makers at Photonics West, transceiver and test makers at OFC and IMS, and SMT makers at IPC APEX EXPO.
Good to know
Decide early where the electrical, compressed air and data drops land. Running machines and instruments draw more than a screen, and the floor ports are set before the carpet goes down.

The flagship20×30+

600 sq ft and up. A showroom on the show floor.

In the space
Running equipment or the full product range on every face, a theater for technical talks, two or more meeting rooms, a lounge for key accounts and distributors, a storage room for demo units and a hanging sign.
Best for
Toolmakers with several product lines, component makers meeting distributors from many countries and companies running technical talks on the floor.
Good to know
Check the floor load, the rigging and the machine move-in route before the drawings are final. At IPC APEX EXPO 2027, islands can rise to 20 ft and peninsulas to 16 ft, per the Global Electronics Association.

A good semiconductor booth works like a good lab: the sample under good light, the instrument switched on, power and data where the demo needs it, and a door that closes for the NDA. We’ll plan the cases, the drops and the layout together. Get a fixed proposal

07 FIVE FLOORS, FIVE KINDS OF ENGINEER

Choose the right semiconductor or electronics show audience Know who signs the PO. Then pick the floor.

Start with the person who approves the tool, the license or the board order. Fab and process engineers walk SEMICON West and SPIE Advanced Lithography + Patterning, chip architects walk DAC and Chiplet Summit, optical engineers walk Photonics West and OFC, RF and test engineers walk IEEE IMS and ITC, and PCB and assembly teams walk IPC APEX EXPO. Pick the people you need at your bench, and we’ll help you narrow the field.

08 EVERY PART HAD A FIRST SHOW

Semiconductor shows for startups & first-time exhibitors Your first U.S. show. Your first U.S. design-in.

Young chip, photonics and RF companies often start in a startup pavilion, a national pavilion or a 10×10 package, where a working sample and a clear spec meet the same engineers as a large booth. Here’s how to get in, with the source for every rule.

MAKE THE SPEC VISIBLE

A wafer.
A beam to follow.
A reason to sign the NDA.

The sample gets them to stop. A wafer under good light, a laser demo they can watch safely, the trace live on a screen and a quiet room to talk volumes and qualification give a process engineer, a chip architect or a buyer a reason to start the evaluation.

09 LET’S GET YOU FLOOR-READY

How to exhibit at a semiconductor or electronics trade show Show the sample. Then close the door.

Chip and electronics shows run on samples too small to see, instruments too heavy to ship twice and engineers with exact questions. Let’s break it into manageable pieces: the sample, the live instrument, the technical week, the meeting room, the spring cluster, the team from abroad, the freight and labor, and the follow-up.

01THE SAMPLEMake the invisible visible.
  • Put it under glass and light: Wafers, dies, optics and packaged parts in lit cases at eye level, with a microscope or a macro camera feeding a screen so the aisle can see the detail.
  • Bring what they can hold: A test wafer, a populated board or a cut-away package travels in a case and starts more conversations than a render.
  • Print the spec beside it: The part number, the process, wavelength or frequency, and the one number that matters to the buyer.
  • Lock it up at night: High-value samples and instruments go in lockable storage after hours, and the keys stay with your team.
02THE LIVE INSTRUMENTRun it live. Bring a backup.
  • Order a wired line: Show WiFi carries thousands of phones, so any demo that needs a network gets a hard line. OFC’s 2027 sample budget puts internet at $1,343, per Optica.
  • Count the watts: The same budget lists 500 W of electricity at $270 at advance rates. Instruments, lasers and running machines draw more, so list every unit on the electrical order.
  • Ask about lasers and radios: Many shows set rules for laser demos and for anything that transmits. Ask before you ship, and build the enclosure or the safety zone into the booth.
  • Bring a backup: A recorded demo on a local drive, spare cables and a second unit in storage.
03THE TECHNICAL WEEKKnow when the floor is open.

Many of these events run a five-day program with a shorter exhibition inside it, so the floor is open fewer hours than the week suggests.

  • SPIE Photonics West: the BiOS Expo runs January 30–31, 2027 and the Photonics West Exhibition February 2–4, so pick the audience you need.
  • SPIE Advanced Lithography + Patterning: a two-day exhibition, February 23–24, 2027, inside a week that runs February 21–25 in San Jose.
  • IEEE IMS: the exhibition runs May 25–27, 2027 in San Antonio and closes at 3 p.m. on the last day.
  • PCB East: a one-day exhibition on April 28, 2027, inside a four-day conference in Worcester.
04THE MEETING ROOMGive the NDA a door that closes.

Roadmaps, pricing, volumes and qualification data do not belong at the counter.

  • Build it in: In a 20×20 or larger we build a meeting room with a door, a screen and a table for six.
  • Book it from the show: The EDS Leadership Summit runs mostly in hotel meeting suites (a 2027 Euro Suite is $5,830 for members), and Chiplet Summit sells meeting rooms to exhibitors.
  • Schedule it: Book fab, OEM and distributor meetings before the show and keep a calendar at the counter.
05THE SPRING CLUSTERPlan March and April as one season.
  • OFC opens it: March 7–11, 2027 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, exhibition March 9–11.
  • Same days, two states: SEMICON West in Phoenix and Chiplet Summit in Santa Clara both run March 30–April 1, 2027. Companies at both need two teams and two booths.
  • SEMICON West lives in Phoenix now: March 30–April 1, 2027, May 9–11, 2028 and April 3–5, 2029, all at the Phoenix Convention Center, per SEMI.
  • IPC APEX EXPO follows: April 3–8, 2027 in Anaheim, exhibition April 6–8. If you show at both, we plan the freight and the move-in dates together.
06THE TEAM FROM ABROADStart the visas with the space contract.
  • Visas take time: Visa appointments for staff from China, India and other countries can take months, so apply as soon as the space is booked.
  • Join a pavilion if it fits: OFC 2027 has China, Japan, Korea and Netherlands pavilions, booked through each pavilion’s local partner, per Optica.
  • Carry the newest samples: Prototypes and engineering samples travel best with the team, with export and customs papers for each unit.
  • Badges by name: Register every booth staffer with the show; badge names should match passports.
07THE FREIGHT & LABORBuild it here. Count back from the warehouse date.
  • Count back from the deadlines: Every show publishes the date freight must reach the advance warehouse. At SPIE Advanced Lithography + Patterning 2027, the exhibitor certificate of insurance is due January 22 and the advance warehouse opens January 25. Our builds take 30 to 45 days, so we work back from those dates.
  • Build it in the U.S.: We build in our Fishkill, NY shop and our Las Vegas shop, so the booth does not cross an ocean.
  • Know the labor rules: Big U.S. halls set who may install, rig and wire on the floor. Your Purple project manager runs the install with the labor each show requires.
  • Budget material handling: OFC’s 2027 sample budget lists $326 for about 200 lb, per Optica. It is charged by weight, so heavy instruments cost more to move.
08THE FOLLOW-UPSend the data sheet before they get back to the fab.

Scan every badge with notes: the part, the application, the volume and the timeline. Send data sheets, quotes, evaluation samples and NDA drafts within days of the show.

Tag every lead as a fab, a design team, an OEM, an EMS, a distributor or a researcher, so follow-up reaches the right person. Track results over a full qualification cycle: a part evaluated after the show can take a year or more to reach production, so measure evaluations started and design-ins, not only the leads.

10 THE MATH BEHIND THE DESIGN-IN

Semiconductor trade show budget & ROI Clear goals. Design-ins you can count.

Let’s put numbers behind the plan. Add your full show budget and your own deal economics to see what breaking even could look like over a realistic qualification cycle.

Budget beyond the square footage.

Space & presence
Booth space or package, design, graphics, screens, lit sample cases, demo counters, meeting rooms, flooring, furniture and lighting.
Getting there
Freight for the booth and heavy instruments, material handling by weight, installation, rigging, dismantle and storage, and samples carried by the team.
Running the booth
Electrical for instruments and lasers, wired internet, compressed air where machines need it, cleaning, lead capture, data sheets and security for high-value samples.
Your people & follow-through
Engineering and sales team time, international travel and visas, show-week hotels, customer dinners and post-show follow-up.

Get itemized quotes and an explicit contingency. Instruments, electrical, internet, freight for heavy demo units and labor weigh more on a semiconductor budget than floor space, and show-week hotels in San Francisco and San Jose add up fast. These categories are a planning checklist, not a price estimate.

THE EXHIBIT MATH

Let’s do the math.

An example to get you started. Change the numbers to fit your company.

Use contribution after the cost of goods and support, before show cost, not the order value. Many semiconductor deals start with an evaluation and grow over a qualification cycle, so choose one evaluation period (for example, 12 or 24 months) for every input.

For the booth itself, our builds take 30 to 45 days, so we plan back from the show’s advance warehouse date.

Can Purple build a booth for SEMICON West, OFC or IPC APEX EXPO?

Yes. We design and build custom booths from 10×20 up, with lit sample cases, demo counters, screens and meeting rooms, in our Fishkill, NY and Las Vegas shops. Your Purple project manager runs the install with the labor each show requires. Where a show sells only 10×10 packages or tabletops, we build the graphics, cases and lighting for that space.
