Short answer

Trade show staffing in Kansas City

Kansas City shows are won by staff who can speak to vets, ranchers and buyers, then host the barbecue dinner after close. Purple Exhibits sends local brand ambassadors, booth reps, product presenters, hostesses and registration hosts to Bartle Hall, the Kay Barnes Grand Ballroom, the Overland Park Convention Center and venues on both sides of State Line Road. Every role is a flat $85 an hour per person with a four-hour minimum, and there are no travel fees because the crew already lives in the metro. Plan three to four weeks ahead for most shows, longer for big January and fall conventions, and give us 72 hours for a rush.

Real Purple crews, dressed for the ring

This is what a Purple team looks like on a show floor: matched outfits, badges on, product in hand. Tell us the feel you want for Bartle Hall or a dinner across State Line, and we cast and dress the crew to match.

Six hosts in matching black cocktail dresses and show lanyards line up at an industrial machinery booth before the doors open. One dress code, one call time, and a team photo the exhibitor can post that morning.

3

Promotional models

Promo staff for sponsor nights in the Power & Light District, product launches and street-team handouts around the metro.

Hostesses and VIP hosts

Hosts who run the guest list at a barbecue dinner, a hospitality suite at the Loews or a gala in the Union Station halls.

Animal Health Corridor

Booth staff who can talk to a vet

The stretch from Manhattan, Kansas, through St. Joseph to Columbia, Missouri, is known as the KC Animal Health Corridor. Its backers count more than 300 animal health companies in the region, so Kansas City hosts a lot of launches, sales meetings and booths aimed at vets and producers.

KANSAS MISSOURI Manhattan Kansas City St. Joseph Columbia

Not to scale. Our crew is based in the Kansas City metro and works events across the region.

Who exhibits

Pharmaceutical, vaccine, diagnostics, nutrition and pet food companies, many with regional offices between Manhattan, Kansas, and Columbia, Missouri.

Who walks the aisle

Veterinarians, clinic managers, feedlot and dairy buyers, distributors and researchers. Most know more about the product category than a general crowd does.

How we brief

Your staff learn the approved product language and the words to avoid. Clinical or dosing questions go straight to your vet services team, with the contact logged.

What we send

Brand ambassadors who can greet a large-animal vet and a pet owner in the same hour, booth reps with lead apps, and presenters for equipment demos.

Who does what: Missouri is not a right-to-work state, though the center itself has no union contracts. IATSE Local 31 stagehands build exhibits the exhibitor does not set up itself, and local freight handlers run the forklifts. Our staff work the people side: greeting, demos, presentations and lead scanning.

Walking distance: the floor runs 1,440 feet end to end. For a booth in Hall E with a hotel by Hall A, we plan breaks near your booth so nobody loses a quarter hour on the walk.

Local know-how

One metro, two states

Four Kansas City details that change call times, routes and who we send.

Kansas City Convention Center exhibit hall with agriculture and animal health booths and a brand ambassador in a navy blazer at the right
Bartle Hall on an animal health show day: big aisles, tall ceilings and a long walk from end to end.

State Line Road

The metro sits in two states. Kansas City, Kansas, and Overland Park are on the west side; downtown and Bartle Hall are in Missouri. Same crew, same rate on both.

A free streetcar

The KC Streetcar costs nothing to ride. Its Power & Light stop at 14th and Main is about two blocks from the center, and the line now runs from the river to UMKC.

Broadway at rush hour

Trucks using the north dock from Broadway between 6 and 9 a.m. or 4 and 6 p.m. need a police officer to direct traffic. We set staff call times around your freight slot.

Indoor walks in winter

January shows bring cold mornings. The Loews footbridge and the center’s walkways keep staff out of the wind between the hotel and the hall.

After the show floor

The deal often closes over burnt ends

A client dinner at a barbecue joint is part of many Kansas City show weeks. We staff it like a small event, with the same people who worked your booth that day when you want them.

  1. Pick the room earlyPrivate rooms at the well-known barbecue spots fill around big conventions. Book the room before you book the hosts.
  2. A host at the doorOne hostess checks names, hands out name tags and seats your top accounts next to the right salespeople.
  3. Keep the table talkingA brand ambassador who worked your booth that day remembers who asked about what, and steers those people to your team.
  4. Four hours covers itOur four-hour minimum fits a typical dinner from arrival to last plate, so evening hosts rarely cost more than one shift.

Avoid these

Six Kansas City mistakes we help exhibitors skip

NO. 1

Staff who freeze in front of a vet

Animal health buyers ask sharp questions. Send us your approved claims and a handoff contact, and we brief to them.

NO. 2

Booking a booth crew but not the dinner

Kansas City deals often close over brisket. Add a host or two for the evening while you are booking the day crew.

NO. 3

Forgetting which state the venue is in

Overland Park and the American Royal campus are in Kansas, Bartle Hall is in Missouri. Tell us the venue so the right part of our roster is called.

NO. 4

Asking booth staff to build the booth

Exhibit construction the exhibitor does not do itself goes to the stagehands under the center’s rules. Our staff greet, demo, present and scan.

NO. 5

Ignoring the Broadway rush window

A truck at the north dock at 7:30 a.m. waits for a police officer. Ask for a dock slot outside rush hours and set call times to match.

NO. 6

Leaving January to the last week

The boat show and big January conventions share the same weeks. Lock your crew as soon as your dates are set.

Purple Exhibits Kansas City team
Checked by our Midwest coordinators · Updated

How much do trade show models cost in Kansas City?

$85 an hour per person, four-hour minimum. Brand ambassadors, booth reps, product presenters, hostesses and registration hosts are all the same price, and metro bookings carry no travel fees.

Do you staff animal health booths?

Yes. The region is home to many animal health companies, and we brief staff on your approved product language. Clinical and dosing questions go to your own vet services team.

Do you staff events on the Kansas side?

Yes. Our crew lives on both sides of State Line Road and works the Overland Park Convention Center, the American Royal campus and Kansas-side hotels at the same rate.

Can you host a barbecue client dinner?

Yes. We send hostesses who check guests in, seat key accounts and keep the evening on schedule. A four-hour shift usually covers the whole dinner.

Is the Kansas City Convention Center union?

Missouri is not a right-to-work state, though the center has no union contracts of its own. Stagehands from IATSE Local 31 handle exhibit construction the exhibitor does not do itself. Our staff do the people work: greeting, demos, presenting and scanning.

Which hotel is closest to Bartle Hall?

The Loews Kansas City, the headquarters hotel, links to the center by a footbridge over Wyandotte Street. The Crowne Plaza, Hilton President, Marriott Downtown and Hotel Phillips are all a few blocks away.

Can my staff use the streetcar?

Yes. The KC Streetcar is free, and the Power & Light stop at 14th and Main is about two blocks from the center. It also reaches Union Station and the River Market.

Which shows do you staff in Kansas City?

We staff exhibitors at shows like the Kansas City Boat & Sportshow, the Home & Flower Show and national conventions at Bartle Hall, plus animal health meetings and barbecue hospitality across the metro.

How early should I book Kansas City staff?

Three to four weeks for most shows. Give January conventions more time, because several big events share those weeks. Rush bookings need 72 hours.

What if someone cancels on show day?

A briefed replacement from our Kansas City bench arrives within two hours, or that shift is free.

Can you staff a Kansas City show and a St. Louis show in the same season?

Yes. We have local staff in both cities, so neither crew needs flights or hotel nights. One Purple coordinator can manage both bookings.

Can Purple also build our Kansas City booth?

Yes. We design, build, ship and install exhibits for Bartle Hall and staff them under one plan, with freight timed around the center’s dock rules.

Where can I hire booth staff near Bartle Hall?

Right here. Our Kansas City crew lives across the metro, from the River Market to Overland Park, and reports straight to the Kansas City Convention Center. Many ride the free streetcar or walk in from downtown, so there is no travel line on your invoice.

Can I book promotional models for one day in Kansas City?

Yes. A single day is fine, and the only floor is our four-hour minimum per person. Exhibitors often add a day of extra hosts for a launch, a sponsor night or the busiest day of the show.

What do your Kansas City staff wear?

Whatever fits your brand and the room. Common picks are branded polos, cocktail dresses, tailored suits or a pressed ranch-smart look for outdoor events. Ship us your shirts, or tell us the colors and we brief the crew on the dress code.
