What makes NAFCD + NBMDA Annual Convention different, and how we build for it

This is not a public expo. The NAFCD + NBMDA Annual Convention gathers the North American Association of Floor Covering Distributors and the North American Building Material Distribution Association, whose members sell flooring, wood panels, decorative surfaces, cabinet hardware and finishes through two-step distribution. Smithbucklin manages the trade show, every supplier booth is a tabletop, and the boards set strict rules: displays no taller than 48 inches above the table and no more than two floor-standing sample racks per 10×10. The 2026 program in Dallas adds Distributor Forum Southwest, keynotes, membership meetings and a networking reception in the exhibit hall, and suppliers book distributor appointments ahead with the convention's Appointment Scheduler.

Floor covering distributor owners

Line profitability, freight and fill rates, marketing support for their dealers and the products that will sell next year, from a supplier executive who can commit.

Building-material distributor executives

Panels, laminates, hardware and finishes their shop customers ask for, with pricing programs and supply reliability spelled out in a short meeting.

Purchasing and product managers

Samples they can hold, spec sheets and a follow-up plan, gathered in the few hours the exhibit hall is open between sessions.

NAFCD + NBMDA Annual Convention rules that shape your booth

Displays stop 48 inches above the table

Tabletop models or displays may not exceed 48 inches above the table, and no display material may extend beyond the table's width or length (2026 rules). We build risers and headers to that line.

Organizer rule

Two floor racks per 10×10

No more than two floor-standing sample racks or shelving units fit in a 10×10, floor units stop at 8 feet, and anything over 4 feet stays in the back 4 feet of the booth. We design slim racks within those limits.

Organizer rule

Member rate needs active membership

Member tabletop rates apply only if NAFCD or NBMDA membership is active both at booking and at the convention; a lapse is invoiced at the non-member difference (2026 terms). We flag renewal dates in your plan.

Organizer rule

Orders yes, retail sales no

No retail sales with payment and delivery are allowed in the exhibit hall, though orders for future delivery may be taken, and only your own regular products may be shown. We build order-taking into the table, not a sales counter.

Organizer rule

Stay set up until the close

The 2026 contract asked for tabletops to be set by noon on November 3 or risk losing the space, and dismantling before the hall closes can cost priority points. We schedule install early and pack only after the final session.

Organizer rule

Programs worth planning for

First-time exhibitor rate

New exhibiting suppliers paid $4,700 for a 10×10 tabletop and $9,500 for a 10×20 in 2026, below the member rates, and were flagged in the exhibitor listings.

Official details

Appointment Scheduler

A downloadable scheduler the convention gives exhibitors to plan one-on-one distributor meetings before arriving, with marketing support to set appointments ahead of time.

Official details

Distributor Forum

Regional one-day forums for distributors; the 2026 series runs in Atlanta, Philadelphia and Los Angeles in September and ends with Distributor Forum Southwest in Dallas on the convention's opening day.

Official details

Sponsorship opportunities

Sponsorships for receptions, sessions and the golf tournament give suppliers visibility beyond the tabletop; NAFCD and NBMDA list them on the convention site.

Case study · Fabuwood

Fabuwood at KBIS 2026, Orange County Convention Center, Orlando

Thirteen cabinetry rooms, an illuminated brand portal and timber slat walls: an award-winning environment designed, built and installed by Purple, named one of the best booths on the floor.

Fabuwood sells cabinetry through dealers and distributors, the same channel these suppliers court; here the booth shrinks to a tabletop, so every sample has to earn its inch.

04 Designing for flooring and specialty building-material suppliers selling through two-step distribution at NAFCD + NBMDA Annual Convention

Four things we get right for NAFCD + NBMDA Annual Convention exhibitors

Assorted wooden panels arranged in a drawer with a hand reaching in1

Forty-eight inches above the table

Tabletop models and displays may not rise more than 48 inches above the table or reach past its width and length. We build a two-tier riser that fits the 6-foot table, with a lit header at the 48-inch line, so your top sample still reads across the aisle.

Warehouse aisle with shelves stacked with packages and goods2

Two racks, back four feet

Each 10×10 allows no more than two floor-standing sample racks, nothing over 8 feet, and items above 4 feet belong in the rear 4 feet of the space so neighbors keep their sight lines. We size slim rolling racks that slot behind the table and leave the front clear.

Stacked wooden planks in a dimly lit warehouse3

Built for booked meetings

The 2026 schedule gave the hall about seven hours across two days, and suppliers set appointments in advance with the convention's Appointment Scheduler. We add a small meeting ledge and a QR card for each distributor visit, so a 15-minute meeting ends with a clear next step.

Wooden pallets stacked in an outdoor warehouse yard4

Ship light, store nothing extra

The boards warn that extra racks or units beyond the tabletop rules must be stored off the floor at the exhibitor's cost. We pack exactly what the space allows in one or two cases, routed through the official contractor's advance warehouse.

Networking reception in the hall (2026)

The Wednesday 4:15 to 6 p.m. welcome reception runs inside the exhibit hall, and exhibitors may serve alcohol in the booth then only through the hotel's licensed bartenders.

Logistics for NAFCD + NBMDA Annual Convention 2027, handled

NAFCD and NBMDA have not posted where or when the 2027 convention meets, so both are not confirmed yet. The 2026 contract booked the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, with tabletop move-in on November 3 from noon to 4:30 p.m. and November 4 from 8 a.m. to noon, and move-out on November 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. The official general services contractor supplies each booth's table, chairs and ID sign, booth floors must be finished with no exposed concrete, and the hotel's caterer is the only food and drink source. Smithbucklin manages the trade show for NAFCD and NBMDA. Our project manager and vetted local labor deliver, set and pack your tabletop display inside those windows.

What Purple handles

  • Tabletop risers and lit headers that stop at the 48-inch limit
  • Slim sample racks, two per 10×10, kept in the back 4 feet
  • Back graphics and pull-ups under the 8-foot ceiling for floor units
  • Contractor orders and advance-warehouse freight before the discount deadline
  • Meeting materials matched to your pre-booked distributor appointments
  • Storage between this convention, TISE and Coverings

NAFCD + NBMDA Annual Convention exhibitor questions

Questions exhibitors ask us before NAFCD + NBMDA Annual Convention

When is the NAFCD + NBMDA Annual Convention 2027?

The 2027 dates are not confirmed yet; the latest edition the associations have published is November 3–5, 2026 in Dallas, and the 2025 convention met in Chicago. We plan your tabletop as soon as the 2027 dates are posted on distributorconvention.org.

Where is the NAFCD + NBMDA convention held in 2027?

The 2027 location is not confirmed yet, since neither association's site names a host city or hotel. The 2026 edition was booked into the Hilton Anatole, 2201 N Stemmons Freeway, just north of downtown Dallas, with the program and the tabletop hall under one roof.

How much does a tabletop exhibit cost at the NAFCD + NBMDA convention?

For 2026, members paid $5,500 for a 10×10 tabletop and $11,000 for a 10×20; first-time exhibitors paid $4,700 and $9,500, and non-members $10,400 and $20,800. A tabletop display from us, with riser, racks, graphics and lighting, costs far less than a floor booth because the rules cap its size.

What are the tabletop rules at the NAFCD + NBMDA convention?

Displays may not exceed 48 inches above the table or extend past its width or length, each 10×10 allows at most two floor-standing sample racks, floor units stop at 8 feet, and anything over 4 feet sits in the back 4 feet. Items breaking the rules must be moved or stored at your cost.

What does a NAFCD + NBMDA booth package include?

In 2026 each tabletop came with two full-conference passes worth $2,190, a 6-foot table, two chairs, an ID sign, carpeted space, five meals and two receptions; a 10×20 received four badges. We bring everything that sits on and behind the table.

Can we bring a custom booth to the NAFCD + NBMDA convention?

The convention is tabletop only, so a freestanding custom booth does not fit its rules. What we build here is a tabletop kit: a riser and lit header within the 48-inch limit, two slim sample racks and a back graphic, packed in cases that ship cheaply.

How long is the NAFCD + NBMDA exhibit hall open?

About seven hours over two days: the 2026 contract set the hall for Wednesday, November 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 4:15 to 6 p.m., including a welcome reception, and Thursday, November 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The 2027 hours are not confirmed yet, so we plan for a few concentrated hours rather than full days.

Who can exhibit at the NAFCD + NBMDA convention?

Suppliers selling to floor covering and building-material distributors exhibit, and the associations decide each company's eligibility. Member rates require an active NAFCD or NBMDA membership both when booking and at the convention, or the difference to the non-member rate is invoiced. Retail sales are not allowed; orders for future delivery are.

Who organizes the NAFCD + NBMDA convention?

The North American Association of Floor Covering Distributors and the North American Building Material Distribution Association run it jointly, and Smithbucklin manages the trade show, assigning tabletop space and collecting payments. NBMDA members distribute wood panels, decorative surfaces, cabinet hardware and finishes.

How many people attend the NAFCD + NBMDA convention?

The associations promote access to 1,000+ thought leaders and decision-makers from across the distribution channel for 2026; 2027 attendance is not confirmed yet. Their exhibitor list runs from flooring makers to panel, hardware and software suppliers.

When do we need to book a NAFCD + NBMDA tabletop?

Space is chosen at onsite space selection during the prior year's convention: for 2026, those companies paid in full by March 1, 2026, and cancellations from July 24, 2026 got no refund. The 2027 schedule is not confirmed yet, so we track it and prepare your display to match.

Can we reuse our NAFCD + NBMDA display at other shows?

A tabletop riser and racks work again at the Southwest Flooring Market in Arlington in January and at regional distributor events. For TISE or Coverings we build a larger booth in the same graphic style, and we store both between shows.

Where do exhibitors stay for the NAFCD + NBMDA convention?

For 2026 the official hotel is the Hilton Anatole at $274 a night plus taxes, booked only through the link sent after registration. The 2027 hotel is not confirmed yet; we book crew rooms once it is.
