What makes SfN Neuroscience different, and how we build for it
Neuroscience is the largest gathering of brain researchers anywhere, and its exhibit hall shares the floor with thousands of poster presentations, so traffic comes in waves between poster blocks.SfN sells space through a priority-points system: one point per 10×10, up to five, plus points for Sustaining Associate Membership, advertising in JNeurosci, eNeuro and the Program and Exhibit Guide, Product Theater sessions and Expo Suites. First-time companies pass an eligibility check, because exhibits must be educational. Every booth arrives with its own carpet, and My Neuroscience Marketplace lists exhibitors to nearly 35,000 members year-round. The 2027 meeting returns to Chicago after the 2024 edition there.
A rig, microscope or software they can compare against the one in their lab, with pricing that fits a grant cycle and a person who has run the experiment.
Protocols, antibodies, viral vectors and analysis tools they can use next week, sample data for their brain region or model, and a fast answer between poster sessions.
Throughput, service contracts and validation detail for imaging and electrophysiology platforms shared across many users.

Inside SfN Neuroscience 2027
Rules that shape your SfN Neuroscience booth
SfN carpets only the aisles and requires every exhibitor to provide carpet or installed flooring for the whole booth; booth fees exclude furnishings, power and labor (2026 rules). We include flooring in every SfN proposal.
Island display material is limited to 16 feet with see-through areas, only islands may hang a sign, up to 20 feet, and island and peninsula drawings need SfN approval (September 11 in 2026). We draw both together.
Exhibits must be educational, featuring research or teaching tools or relevant publications; new companies file the First-Time Exhibitors Form and wait about two business days for SfN's decision. We start design work once you are cleared.
Operating lasers must be certified to 21 CFR 1040, demonstrated under ANSI Z136.1, never left unattended and overseen by a designated safety manager; pharmaceutical exhibitors are asked to follow the PhRMA Code (2026 rules). We enclose the optics.
Giveaways must relate to attendees' work and cost $25 or less, unlisted items need written approval, and raffle prizes stop at $1,000 with winners named after the meeting (2026 rules). We plan booth draws to match.
Programs worth planning for
Exhibitor presentation sessions sold alongside booth space; each Product Theater earns one priority point, up to five, toward next year's booth selection.
Private meeting suites purchased beside booth space; each Expo Suite adds a priority point, up to five, and gives a quiet room for customer meetings.
A free year-round company listing with a link to your website, marketed biweekly to nearly 35,000 SfN members before and after the meeting.
A separate exhibit program for graduate programs recruiting students at the annual meeting, run by SfN alongside the commercial hall.
Neuroscience is the largest research meeting on this guide and the one for brain-research tools; choose it over Cell Bio when your microscopes, rigs, reagents or models are bought by neuroscience labs rather than general cell biology groups. Compare every pharma and biotech show we build for →

02 Booths & pricing for SfN Neuroscience 2027
Popular booth sizes at SfN Neuroscience
SfN sells commercial space in 10×10 inline units, peninsulas from four units (400 square feet) and islands priced per 100 square feet. Reagent and antibody companies mostly run 10×20 or 10×30 inlines; microscope and electrophysiology makers take islands. We recommend a 10×20 for consumables and a 20×20 island for any live instrument demo.

Pixee Medical at a medical technology congress
A demo-first booth for augmented-reality surgical guidance, laid out so every visitor could try the technology while traffic kept moving.
Pixee Medical put a working surgical-guidance demo in front of every passer-by without jamming the aisle; a live patch-clamp or two-photon rig faces that test in SfN's poster-heavy hall.

Four things we get right for SfN Neuroscience exhibitors
1Bring the floor with you
SfN carpets the aisles but requires every exhibitor to supply carpet or installed flooring for the whole booth, and booth fees exclude furniture, power and labor. We ship a padded, cable-ready floor that hides instrument power and data runs under the demo table.
2Demos set back from the aisle
SfN bars demonstration areas on the aisle line and limits or stops a demo whose crowd spills into the aisle. We set rigs and microscopes two to four feet inside the booth with a viewing pocket in front, so a crowd at a live recording stays on your carpet.
3Laser rigs with a named safety manager
Two-photon and optogenetics demos need lasers certified to 21 CFR 1040, operation under ANSI Z136.1 and a designated safety manager present throughout. We build enclosures and interlocked viewing windows into the island so the demo can run all day.
4Peninsulas sign low, islands sign high
Only islands may fly a hanging sign at SfN, up to 20 feet, with structures capped at 16 feet; peninsula signs and logos stay 10 feet back from neighbors. We decide booth shape with the sign in mind, because a peninsula's brand has to live on its back wall.

Where you could be at SfN Neuroscience 2027
McCormick Place's calendar lists the 2027 meeting in the South and North Buildings. Each building has its own docks, so your hall assignment sets the freight plan and the walk from the poster boards.
South Building
About 840,000 square feet across two levels with two-level docks, per Purple's venue guide.
Our advice If your booth lands here, we confirm the level before routing crates, so freight arrives at the right dock the first time.
North Building
About 700,000 square feet of exhibit space with docks on the north side, opened in 1986, per Purple's venue guide.
Our advice A separate dock means separate labels and a separate delivery target; we never mix North and South Building freight on one shipment.
Hotel skywalk connections
Two on-campus hotel towers, the Hyatt Regency and the Marriott Marquis, link to the halls through enclosed walkways.
Our advice Staff housed on the skywalk can reset the booth before the hall opens without a shuttle ride, worth asking for when housing opens.

Logistics for SfN Neuroscience 2027, handled
Since Illinois reformed McCormick Place work rules in 2010, company employees may put up their own exhibit with their own tools, yet moving crates from the dock to the booth is still Teamster material handling billed by weight; we plan near $210 per hundredweight. The venue's calendar places SfN 2027 in the South and North Buildings, which have separate docks, so freight is labeled to building, hall and booth. SfN's 2026 contractor was The Expo Group, and its service manual opened in August; the 2027 contractor and manual are not confirmed yet. Crew rooms go to the skywalk-connected Hyatt Regency McCormick Place or Marriott Marquis.
Hall rules, drayage estimates and freight deadlines for the building that hosts SfN Neuroscience are in our McCormick Place exhibitor guide.

SfN Neuroscience exhibitor questions
Questions exhibitors ask us before SfN Neuroscience
How much does a booth at SfN Neuroscience cost?
SfN has not posted 2027 rates. For 2026 a commercial 10×10 inline cost $6,950 at the advance rate and islands $7,510 per 100 square feet, so a 20×20 island ran about $30,040 in space alone. Our custom 20×20 runs $50,000 to $120,000; flooring and McCormick Place freight come on top.
When is the SfN 2027 exhibit space deadline?
SfN's 2027 sale dates are not confirmed yet. For Washington in 2026, returning commercial exhibitors applied with 50% deposits by February 20, everyone else by May 1 for advance rates, and island drawings were due September 11. We plan backward from the 2027 equivalents as soon as SfN posts them.
Can we rent a booth for SfN Neuroscience?
Renting is a common choice for Neuroscience: our rental brings fabric walls sized to the 8-foot back drape, the full-booth flooring SfN requires, a counter, lighting and storage, with shipping and both ends of the on-site work priced once, in writing. A 10×20 rental runs $7,500 to $15,000; SfN bills space separately.
Can our own staff set up our booth at McCormick Place?
Since the 2010 reforms, McCormick Place has allowed company employees to build their exhibit, large or small, using their own tools and ladders. Dock-to-booth freight stays union material handling, so we coordinate your team's build time with the contractor's deliveries.
What are SfN's rules for hanging signs and booth height?
Under the 2026 rules, island displays stop at 16 feet and only islands may hang a sign, to a 20-foot limit; peninsulas need at least four units, cannot hang signs and keep double-sided graphics 10 feet from neighbors. Island and peninsula drawings go to SfN for approval.
What does drayage cost at McCormick Place for SfN?
The official contractor sets the material-handling tariff in SfN's exhibitor service manual, which appeared in August for the 2026 meeting. Our McCormick Place budget line uses roughly $210 for each 100 pounds; surcharges hit late or loose freight, so everything we send is crated and timed to the warehouse window.
Can a Neuroscience booth be reused at other meetings?
An inline or island designed around SfN's limits carries over to Cell Bio in December, the Biophysical Society meeting and ASBMB. Between meetings we store it, swap graphics for each audience and ship to the next advance warehouse.
Are giveaways and raffles allowed at SfN?
In 2026 giveaways had to relate to attendees' professional interests and cost $25 or less per item, and items not on SfN's pre-approved list needed written approval by October 16. Raffles were allowed with prizes up to $1,000, with winners announced after the meeting.
When is SfN Neuroscience 2027?
Neuroscience 2027 runs October 23–27, 2027 in Chicago, and McCormick Place's calendar lists the meeting in its South and North Buildings. The 2027 exhibit hall schedule is not confirmed yet; the most recent meeting is Neuroscience 2026 in Washington, D.C., November 14–18, 2026.
Where is SfN Neuroscience 2027 held?
Neuroscience 2027 is in Chicago at McCormick Place, whose event calendar books the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting into the South and North Buildings for October 23–27, 2027. SfN itself names Chicago; the 2028 meeting moves to San Diego, November 11–15, 2028.
How many people attend SfN Neuroscience?
SfN counted 21,093 total registrants at Neuroscience 2025 in San Diego, including 16,550 scientific attendees and 2,997 exhibitor registrants, with 435 exhibiting companies. Chicago in 2024 drew 22,359 registrants, and Washington in 2023 drew 25,808.
Who can exhibit at Neuroscience?
SfN admits only educational exhibits, meaning tools and services used in neuroscience research or teaching, plus relevant books and journals. Companies that have never exhibited at an SfN annual meeting file the First-Time Exhibitors Form, and SfN answers on eligibility within two business days.
How does SfN assign booth space?
By priority points. Exhibitors earn one point per 10×10 purchased, up to five, and more for Sustaining Associate Membership, advertising, Product Theater sessions, Expo Suites and sponsorship. Space is selected by appointment in point order, first for past commercial exhibitors, then for everyone who applied by the second deadline.
What products do SfN attendees buy?
Imaging and optical instruments top the list: 8,166 attendees in SfN's 2025 survey named them as a product category of interest, ahead of laboratory equipment and supplies (6,926) and physiological instruments (6,275). Microscopy, animal behavior monitoring and electrophysiology equipment led the products used in research.
