What makes Greenbuild different, and how we build for it
Greenbuild is the one U.S. expo where the booth itself gets graded.Informa Connect and the U.S. Green Building Council run it, and every exhibitor fills in the Greenbuild Mandatory Exhibitor Greening Guidelines (GMEGG) survey on booth materials, shipping, lighting and travel, with one in ten booths audited on the floor. The hall is open only two of the four days, wrapped around Education Labs that earn GBCI credit, the Technology Showcase and Demo Stage, the Innovation Stage, the Sustainability Hub and the GBCI Certification Work Zone, where LEED reviewers meet project teams. In 2027 it moves to McCormick Place, Chicago, after its first New York edition.
Environmental product declarations, recycled content and embodied carbon figures they can drop into a submittal, plus a sample they can hold, all within reach of a short conversation between sessions.
Energy, water and operating cost data from real buildings, payback periods they can take to a board, and a booth calm enough to compare retrofit options over a tablet.
Code and incentive context, decarbonization roadmaps, and proof that your product works at scale, presented by someone technical rather than a sales script.
Your team in Chicago
From our two shops to the Greenbuild floor
For Greenbuild, we build in our own shop in Fishkill, NY, and at our Las Vegas hub, ship to McCormick Place, and put our own project manager on the floor with vetted local labor for the install. A predictable 30–45-day turnaround, secure storage and a pre-show QA before Greenbuild.
At Greenbuild, your team walks into a booth that is lit and stocked. You just show up.
New at Greenbuild 2027
- Moves from the Javits Center to McCormick Place
After its first New York City edition at the Javits Center in October 2026, Greenbuild 2027 runs October 19 to 22 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Labor, drayage and electrical orders follow McCormick Place rules, so nothing carries over from last year's New York service orders. source
Inside Greenbuild 2027
Greenbuild rules that shape your booth
Every Greenbuild exhibitor completes the mandatory GMEGG survey on booth materials, shipping, lighting and transportation before arriving, and 10% are audited onsite (2026 manual). We document the frame, fabric, LED and freight choices so your answers hold up.
Greenbuild requires exhibitors to leave their space as they found it; donations must be like-new and approved in advance, signage, flooring and custom booths are refused, and abandoned items can be billed (2026 manual). We ship everything home or to storage.
In 2026 island structures stopped at 12 feet without fire marshal approval, and hanging signs were allowed only over islands of 400 square feet or more, at most 16 feet to the bottom of the sign. We draw to those limits and file the rendering.
Greenbuild inline booths keep an 8-foot back wall for the rear 5 feet and nothing above 4 feet in the front 5 feet, with 50% visibility at the sides (2026 rules). We keep counters low and put the tall graphic at the back.
Samples, souvenirs and literature stay inside your booth, aisle solicitation is banned, and Greenbuild encourages QR codes instead of samples or swag, with recycled items in limited quantities (2026 rules). We print QR panels linked to your product documents.
Programs worth planning for
Exemplary Performance goes to the exhibitor with the most GMEGG points, Most Innovative to booths beyond GMEGG requirements, and Attendee's Choice is voted in the app (2026 program).
Classrooms on the expo floor where suppliers present sponsor-developed content submitted to GBCI for continuing education credit, open to Conference Pass holders.
A stage where attendees see building and design technology demonstrated first hand; alongside it, the Innovation Stage hosts presentations on new materials, products and sustainability tools.
Attendees collect stamps at participating sponsor booths to enter a prize draw, a sponsor-level way to pull traffic to your booth during the two expo days.
Greenbuild is the U.S. green building show where specifiers buy on carbon and LEED credits; choose it over AHR Expo when your product's case is sustainability performance, not HVAC equipment volume. Compare every building materials show we build for →

02 Booths & pricing for Greenbuild 2027
Popular booth sizes at Greenbuild
Greenbuild sells inline booths that are 10 feet deep, usually 10 or 20 feet wide, plus peninsulas and islands, and in 2026 a 10×10 inline came with 8-foot back drape. Material and building-technology brands usually take a 10×20 inline; we suggest an island of 400 square feet or more only when you need a hanging sign or a demo.

A reusable fabric back wall at the 8-foot limit with your carbon and LEED credit data, a low sample counter inside the front 5 feet, and recycled-content flooring that scores on the GMEGG survey.

04 Designing for low-carbon materials, building envelope, energy and water systems, certification and building technology companies at Greenbuild
Four things we get right for Greenbuild exhibitors
1Design for the GMEGG score
The GMEGG survey asks about booth materials, shipping, lighting and travel, and only exhibitors who meet every requirement qualify for the Exemplary Performance and Most Innovative booth awards. We build on aluminum frames you rent or reuse, print fabric instead of vinyl, light with LED only and document each choice for your survey.
2Show the carbon, not the slogan
Greenbuild visitors carry LEED, WELL and Phius credentials and read product declarations for a living. We give your EPD numbers, recycled content and certifications a full panel at eye level, with a QR code to the documents, since Greenbuild asks exhibitors to swap printed swag for QR codes.
3Nothing left behind at teardown
Greenbuild runs a pack-in, pack-out rule: you leave the space as you found it, and abandoned items are billed back. Donated furniture, samples and display models must be approved in advance, while signage, flooring and custom-built booths are refused. We plan every component to ship home or to storage.
4Two days to fill your calendar
The hall opens only October 20 and 21, 2027, so the walk-up window is short. We design a two-seat meeting nook for pre-booked appointments with owners and specifiers, and a sample bar that works when the Education Labs and Innovation Stage sessions let out.

Where you could be at Greenbuild 2027
McCormick Place is four connected buildings joined by enclosed walkways. Greenbuild has not named its 2027 building, so here is what each of the halls this campus uses means for a booth.
North Building
Roughly 700,000 square feet of floor that opened in 1986; trucks unload on its north side, and citywide shows often fill it first.
Our advice A single-level hall with direct dock access suits heavy envelope or roofing samples, so we crate assemblies to roll straight from the dock.
South Building
The 1997 building spreads about 840,000 square feet over an upper and a lower level, each served by its own docks.
Our advice If Greenbuild lands here, we confirm the level before freight planning, because a wrong-level delivery adds handling charges.
West Building
The 2007 building, about 470,000 square feet, ties into the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place by an enclosed walkway.
Our advice Meetings-heavy shows often land here; a booth near the walkway entrance catches attendees coming straight from the hotel.

Logistics for Greenbuild 2027, handled
McCormick Place is four connected buildings, and Greenbuild has not yet named the hall it will use in 2027, so we plan freight by building, hall and booth number once your space is assigned. Illinois's 2010 McCormick Place reforms let company employees put up the exhibit with personal tools; Teamsters still move every crate between dock and booth and charge by the hundredweight. Hand-carry is limited to one person, one trip, under 30 pounds without a dolly. In 2026 Freeman ran the advance warehouse and floor orders, so we watch for the 2027 service kit and place orders before the discount dates. Our project manager leads install with vetted Chicago labor.
Hall rules, drayage estimates and freight deadlines for the building that hosts Greenbuild are in our McCormick Place exhibitor guide.
What Purple handles
- Reusable frame, fabric and LED booth plans written up for your GMEGG survey answers
- Renderings and hanging-sign drawings for show management approval
- Service orders and freight to the advance warehouse on the 2027 dates
- Install with our project manager and vetted Chicago labor at McCormick Place
- Full pack-out and donation forms, so nothing is billed back after the show
- Storage between Greenbuild and AHR Expo, BOMA or the AIA conference

Greenbuild exhibitor questions
Questions exhibitors ask us before Greenbuild
When is Greenbuild 2027?
Greenbuild 2027 runs October 19 to 22, 2027, in Chicago, and the expo hall is open only on Wednesday, October 20 and Thursday, October 21. Daily expo hours for the Chicago edition are not confirmed yet. The Sustainable Finance & Investing Forum runs alongside it on October 19 and 20.
Where is Greenbuild 2027 held?
At McCormick Place, the four-building convention campus at 2301 S King Drive on Chicago's Near South Side. Which McCormick building Greenbuild will use is not confirmed yet. The 2026 edition, Greenbuild's first in New York City, was at the Javits Center.
How much does a booth at Greenbuild 2027 cost?
Plan on $7,500 to $15,000 for a 10×20 rental from us, or $50,000 to $120,000 for a custom 20×20 island. Greenbuild bills floor space separately, and its 2027 rate is not confirmed yet. What moves the total here is reusable structure, LED lighting and McCormick Place freight, which we price on one fixed proposal.
What is the Greenbuild exhibitor greening survey?
It is the Greenbuild Mandatory Exhibitor Greening Guidelines (GMEGG), an online survey every exhibitor completes before arriving, covering booth materials, shipping, lighting and transportation. Greenbuild audits 10% of exhibitors on the floor, and only those meeting every requirement can win its Exemplary Performance and Most Innovative booth awards.
How many people attend Greenbuild?
Informa reports more than 250 exhibiting companies and over 150 CE-accredited sessions at Greenbuild 2026 in New York, with attendees from 60+ countries each year. Greenbuild publishes no head count for 2026, only thousands of sustainability professionals, so we plan staffing around pre-booked meetings.
Who exhibits at Greenbuild?
Makers of low-carbon materials, building envelope products, energy and water systems and building technology, plus certification bodies: USGBC hosts the GBCI Certification Work Zone, where attendees book one-on-one LEED meetings with technical experts. The Technology Showcase and Demo Stage puts software and building technology in front of the same crowd.
Who organizes Greenbuild?
Informa Connect produces Greenbuild in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the group behind LEED. Informa handles exhibit sales through its Greenbuild sales team, and the exhibitor manual sets the greening, booth and move-in rules.
What are the Greenbuild booth height rules?
In 2026, inline booths kept the back wall at 8 feet with the front 5 feet capped at 4 feet, perimeter booths could reach 12 feet in the back half, and islands topped out at 12 feet without fire marshal approval. Hanging signs were allowed only over islands of 400 square feet or more.
Can we rent a booth for Greenbuild, and what does a rental include?
We rent Greenbuild kits from a 10×20 inline to islands: aluminum frame, printed fabric graphics, LED lighting, counters and storage, with recycled-content flooring available. A rental is itself a reuse story for your GMEGG survey. Freight, install, pack-out and service orders sit on one fixed proposal.
Can our own staff set up our booth at McCormick Place?
Since the 2010 Illinois labor reforms, people on your payroll may put up an exhibit of any footprint using tools they bring. Teamsters still haul every crate between the loading dock and your space and charge by weight; hand-carry means one person, one trip, under 30 pounds, no dolly.
What does drayage cost at McCormick Place?
We budget roughly $210 per hundredweight at McCormick Place for 2026 and 2027, with a 200-pound minimum, and add a quarter to a third more for freight that arrives late, misses its target window or comes uncrated. Greenbuild's 2027 kit sets the actual tariff, and we put the estimate on your proposal.
Can we give away samples or swag at Greenbuild?
Samples and literature must stay inside your booth, and Greenbuild asks exhibitors to use QR codes instead of handing out samples or swag, or to choose recycled items in limited quantities. Leftover samples can be donated only if approved in advance, so we plan quantities to the two expo days.
Is Greenbuild worth exhibiting at?
For products that earn LEED points, cut operating carbon or support healthy-building goals, Greenbuild is the U.S. show where the whole audience buys on those criteria: architects, engineers, owners, operators and sustainability consultants from 60+ countries. The hall is open only two days, so pre-booked meetings carry the return.
Can we reuse our Greenbuild booth at other shows?
We design for reuse from the first sketch, which also scores on the GMEGG survey. The same frame and fabric graphics travel to AHR Expo at McCormick Place in January, BOMA International or the AIA Conference on Architecture & Design, and we store the kit between shows.
Before you sign for Greenbuild
Five things to ask every builder quoting Greenbuild:
- Is every fee on the proposal, including what the Greenbuild show contractor bills?
- Who builds the Greenbuild booth: your own shop or a subcontractor?
- Does your project manager stay on the floor through install and dismantle in Chicago?
- What does the rental include, and what is billed by Greenbuild?
- Where does the booth go after Greenbuild, and what does storage cost?
Common situations
Already own a booth? We refresh the graphics, repair what is worn, ship it to McCormick Place, install it and store it between shows. You keep using the structure you already paid for.
Exhibiting from outside the US? For Greenbuild, we act as your team on the ground: freight to the advance warehouse, show-service orders, installation and storage, and one project manager who answers your emails in your time zone.
Short on time? In two to three weeks, a rental with your graphics can be ready for Chicago. On the first call, we tell you what is realistic for Greenbuild.
