Six sectors, two days: an MD&M South 2028 booth for Charlotte's mixed floor
We design MD&M South booths that tell a device engineer and a packaging or automation buyer, in one glance, which of their problems your parts solve. At the Charlotte Convention Center we plan crates around Hall A's 16-by-26-foot truck door and place the center's own electrical order.

What makes MD&M South different, and how we build for it
MD&M South is Informa Markets' Southeast manufacturing floor, held every other year in Charlotte, and it mixes six sectors where its sibling shows lean on medtech.A device engineer walking to the MedTech Theater passes plastics processors, packaging lines and automation cells, while the Advanced Manufacturing Stage and the exhibitor-led Tech Theater pull plant managers onto the same aisles. Day one of the Peer-to-Peer Networking Sessions sorts visitors by sector, and the SCMEP-backed Sustainability Zone gives the floor a green thread. Informa's exhibit pages also promise visitors from The Battery Show South on the same expo floor. The booth that wins here names its application in each sector's language within two seconds.
A part they can hold, the material and tolerance printed beside it, and an engineer at the counter who can talk validation, cleanroom assembly and lead times for a project already on their list.
Proof that your process or machine already runs in packaging, plastics or bulk handling plants like theirs, with cycle times and footprints they can carry back to a capital request.
A short list of capabilities, certifications and Southeast service reach, plus a seat to log a request for quote, since finding new suppliers is the top reason visitors give for coming.

Inside MD&M South 2028
Rules that shape your booth
Informa admits no one under 18 to MD&M South's expo halls or conference rooms, staff included. We plan the booth roster and any family travel around it, and keep demo staffing to badge-holding adults from your team.
Each 10×10 of MD&M South space carries up to 10 badges, picked up on arrival, and extra badges cost more. A 10×20 therefore covers 20 people, so we size counters and the meeting table to the team you can actually badge.
Informa runs MD&M South without carpet in the expo hall aisles to cut emissions and waste. We finish every booth edge so it meets bare concrete cleanly and price flooring, or a deliberate bare floor, from the first proposal.
Under Informa's general guide, 30% of the space is due 12 to 9 months before MD&M South, 60% at 9 to 6 months and 100% six months out, with the same steps applied to cancellations. We time our build invoices around those dates.
MD&M South gives one priority point per $3,500 of booth and sponsorship spend, one for exhibiting, one per $3,500 of media spend in the year before the show and one for a virtual event. A reusable booth lets a bigger 2028 footprint return in 2030 without a second build.
Programs worth planning for
Judged on recycled build materials, LED lighting, FSC wood, bare flooring, rented booths and consolidated shipping. The posted prize is a $250 Freeman service credit, winner signage in the booth and a mention in the post-show press release.
Sponsored, exhibitor-led sessions on the show floor: a 45-minute presentation plus 10 minutes of questions, sold through Informa's sponsorship team, for suppliers who want a case study in front of a seated room.
An invitation-only sponsorship that gathers 20 to 30 MedTech buyers over a hosted lunch, for one sponsoring supplier who wants a closed-door hour with device buyers during the show.
A free pre-show toolkit for exhibitors with a promo code giving customers a free expo pass or 20% off workshop passes, so the meetings on your two-day calendar are booked before you arrive.
MD&M South is Informa's biennial Southeast manufacturing floor, with 283 companies on its 2026 list; choose it over MD&M East when your customers are Carolinas and Southeast device, packaging and plastics plants and a two-day regional show fits the budget. Popular booth sizes at MD&M South
Informa sells MD&M South space through its event sales team rather than a public rate card, and counts badges per 10×10 unit. Component makers and contract manufacturers line the inline rows; automation and processing brands take islands for working cells. We recommend a 10×20 sample counter for a first Charlotte show, and a 20×20 island when a machine travels.

A lit counter of molded, machined and extruded samples labeled by sector, one screen looping a process video, and a standing table for an RFQ conversation.

Case study · KLEEMANN
KLEEMANN at a industrial technology exhibition
An interactive booth for a global elevator manufacturer: digital simulations, real product showcases and a floor plan that guided visitors from first step to last.
Different industry, same challenge: KLEEMANN showed engineered equipment through real product and a guided floor plan, which is how a component or automation supplier wins MD&M South's mixed aisles.
Read the KLEEMANN case study All case studies →“We were very happy with the experience and with the support provided throughout the project. The booth looked great, the coordination process was smooth, and everything was handled professionally, which made the event much easier for our team.”

04 Designing for medtech component, automation, packaging and contract manufacturing suppliers at MD&M South
Four things we get right for MD&M South exhibitors
1Label every sample by sector
MD&M South puts MedTech, Automation, Packaging, Design & Manufacturing, Plastics, and Powder & Bulk Solids visitors in one aisle. We tag each sample with the sector it serves, such as catheter tubing for medtech or a thermoformed tray for packaging, so each visitor finds their application without asking.
Bring a floor to bare aisles
Informa leaves MD&M South's expo aisles uncarpeted under its sustainability program, so the edge of your booth floor shows. We spec beveled interlocking tiles that read cleanly against the concrete, or leave sealed concrete bare with one rug zone if you enter the Sustainable Booth Contest, which credits bare flooring.
Plan oversized crates for Hall B
Informa's 2028 floor plan sits in Hall A, whose truck door measures 16 by 26 feet. The building's only door for oversized exhibits is the 26-by-29-foot elephant door in Hall B, so we measure every crated machine early and book the route before your freight leaves the plant.
Book meetings before April 19
Two show days leave little room for chance. Informa's figures put 64 percent of MD&M South visitors on an active or planned project, so we set a two-seat RFQ table with lead capture inside the booth, and you send customers free expo passes through the Customer Invites Program well ahead.

Logistics for MD&M South 2028, handled
North Carolina is a right-to-work state, and the Charlotte Convention Center keeps its own exclusives: the center supplies every electrical and plumbing line, with advance orders due 14 days before the event, Encore Global handles rigging and Smart City runs internet. Trucks stage at an off-site marshalling yard holding up to 50 semis before being called to 19 covered dock bays with drive-in gates. During move-in the halls run without air conditioning at half lighting, so we schedule heavy lifts in the cool morning hours. Our project manager runs the build with vetted local labor, and the Westin Charlotte links to the center by a pedestrian bridge, beside the LYNX Blue Line station.
Hall guide
The Charlotte Convention Center puts 280,000 square feet of exhibit space on one level, split into Halls A, B and C. Informa's 2028 MD&M South floor plan is drawn in Hall A; here is what each part of the building means for your booth.
A 100,000-square-foot hall, home to the 2028 MD&M South floor plan, with a 16-by-26-foot drive-in truck door and LED lighting hung about 30 feet up.
Our advice: The height gives an island room for a hanging sign where Informa’s rules allow one, and we file that sign’s Encore Global rigging order with the drawings.
A second 100,000-square-foot hall holding the building's only oversized-exhibit entrance, a 26-by-29-foot elephant door, beside smaller 16-foot truck doors.
Our advice: If a crated machine or line segment clears 16 feet, we route it through Hall B early in move-in so it reaches your Hall A space before aisles fill.
Flush-mounted utility boxes sit on 30-foot centers, columns stand on 90-foot centers, and the slab carries a 350-pound-per-square-foot live load.
Our advice: We check the floor plan for the nearest box and column line before fixing where a machine sits, so a power drop never crosses your demo aisle.

MD&M South exhibitor questions
Questions exhibitors ask us before MD&M South
How much does a booth at MD&M South 2028 cost?
For a supplier at MD&M South the usual fit is a 10×20: rentals run $7,500 to $15,000 and custom builds $15,000 to $45,000. A 20×20 island with a working cell runs $50,000 to $120,000 custom. Machine crating, center-supplied power and booth flooring for the bare aisles move the figure. Informa prices the space itself through its sales team.
When do we need to commit to an MD&M South 2028 booth?
Informa's exhibitor FAQ sets the payment rhythm: as a general guide, 30% of the space is due 12 to 9 months before the show, 60% at 9 to 6 months and the full amount six months out, so roughly October 2027. We need design sign-off by early February 2028 to build in Fishkill and ship on time.
Can we rent a booth for MD&M South, and what does a rental include?
Yes. A Purple rental for Charlotte covers the frame, printed fabric graphics with sector labels, LED lighting, a lockable sample counter, interlocking floor tiles for the uncarpeted aisles, plus trucking and our labor both ways, priced as one fixed figure. After April 20 the kit comes back to our shop, which spares you two years of storage before the 2030 edition.
Can our own staff set up at the Charlotte Convention Center?
North Carolina is a right-to-work state, and our venue notes show full-time staff can usually assemble a booth here, though each show's rules decide. Power is different: the center's own electricians bring every circuit to the booth. Larger builds go up with our project manager and local labor, and we file the contractor paperwork Informa asks for.
Can we run a machine or automation cell in our MD&M South booth?
The building is built for it: a 350-pound-per-square-foot live floor load, floor boxes on 30-foot centers and columns 90 feet apart. We order the center's electrical and any compressed air at least 14 days ahead, guard the moving parts, and route anything too tall for Hall A's 16-foot door through Hall B's elephant door.
What does drayage cost at the Charlotte Convention Center?
We plan about $115 per hundredweight for this building, our 2026 planning figure; the contractor's kit for MD&M South sets the actual tariff, and the center publishes none. Machines and sample cases are what push the weight, so we weigh every crate before it ships and print drayage as its own line on your proposal.
Which hall is MD&M South 2028 in?
Informa's 2028 floor plan for MD&M South is drawn in Hall A, a 100,000-square-foot hall with a 16-by-26-foot truck door. The center's other halls are Hall B, with the elephant door, and Hall C, which splits into C1 and C2. We draw your booth once Informa assigns the space.
Can we reuse our MD&M South booth at other shows?
That is how we design it. The same frame and sample counter can follow you to MD&M West, MEDevice Boston or PACK EXPO Southeast with new graphics for each crowd, and because MD&M South skips odd years, the booth waits in our storage between Charlotte editions and travels from there to the next show on your calendar.
Do you handle the contractor orders for MD&M South?
We do. Once Informa posts the MD&M South 2028 exhibitor kit, we place your material handling, labor and furnishing orders with its general service contractor, the electrical and plumbing orders with the Charlotte Convention Center, and any hanging-sign rigging with Encore Global, and we put every one of those charges on the proposal.
When is MD&M South 2028?
MD&M South 2028 runs Wednesday, April 19 and Thursday, April 20, 2028, at the Charlotte Convention Center. Expo hall days and hours for 2028 are not confirmed yet. The previous edition ran April 22–23, 2026.
Is there an MD&M South in 2027?
No. MD&M South is held every other year, so after the April 2026 show the next edition is April 19–20, 2028, in Charlotte. Exhibitors who need a 2027 medtech supply floor go to MD&M West in Anaheim, MEDevice Boston or MD&M East in New York.
How many people attend MD&M South?
Informa's 2026 exhibitor list for MD&M South holds 283 companies. The show launched in 2022 inside IME South, which Informa reported drew nearly 2,300 buyers and 300+ exhibitors. Informa says 90% of attendees recommend, specify or make final buying decisions.
Is MD&M South open to the public?
No. It is a registered trade event for engineers and manufacturing professionals, and Informa admits no one under 18 to the expo halls or conference rooms. Registrants re-register each show, receive a QR code by email shortly before opening and print badges on site.
How do I get a booth at MD&M South?
Informa Markets sells the space. Its booking steps are to study the 2028 floor plan, pick a booth size and your top three locations, then call the sales team or send the contact form. Priority points accrue at one per $3,500 of booth and sponsorship spend, plus one for exhibiting.
Before you sign with anyone
Five questions to ask any exhibit builder for MD&M South:
- Is every fee on the proposal, including what the show contractor bills?
- Who builds the booth: your own shop or a subcontractor?
- Will your project manager be on the floor for install and dismantle?
- What exactly is in the rental, and what is billed by the show?
- Where does the booth go after the show, and what does storage cost?
Common situations
Already own a booth? We refresh the graphics, repair what is worn, ship it, install it and store it between shows. You keep the structure you paid for.
Exhibiting from outside the US? We are your team on the ground: freight to the advance warehouse, show-service orders, installation and storage, with one project manager answering your emails in your time zone.
Short on time? A rental with your graphics can be ready in two to three weeks. We tell you on the first call what is realistic for your date.
