AAD Annual Meeting 2027 in San Francisco: booth demos with the power off

We build AAD booths where a dermatologist can handle the laser, scope or applicator, read the indication and see the results without a live treatment, because the Academy bars licensed-device demos on live subjects. At Moscone we file your Freeman orders and the EAC notice by February 3.

  • Hall Mar 19–21 · Moscone North
  • 20,111 registrants in 2026
  • Island plans due Feb 3

What makes AAD Annual Meeting different, and how we build for it

The 2027 AAD Annual Meeting runs five days at Moscone Center, but the exhibit hall on the Lower Level of the North building is open only March 19–21, with an unopposed hour from noon to 1 p.m.each day when no sessions compete. More than 300 companies show devices, lasers, pharmaceuticals and practice services, and the Academy screens every first-time exhibitor's FDA filing status before it assigns space. Space goes in Priority Points order, earned through Annual Meeting and Innovation Academy booths. Exhibitor Product Theaters run inside the hall, the AAD Resource Center sits at Booth 4725, and any device that needs a medical license to use is shown powered off under a Simulation Only sign.

Medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatologists

The handpiece or scope in their own hand, the cleared indication in plain words, before-and-after imaging approved for display, and a rep who can talk settings and downtime without overclaiming.

Residents, fellows and medical students

In 2026 more than 3,500 of them registered. They want hands-on time with the devices they will buy in a few years, a quick scan for follow-up, and something useful to carry back to clinic.

Practice owners, PAs, NPs and practice staff

Throughput, financing, service contracts and training for the whole team, discussed at a seated table away from the demo cubicle, with a clear next step before the hall closes Sunday at 3 p.m.

Rules that shape your booth

No licensed-device demos on people

AAD bars live-subject demonstrations of any device that needs a medical license to use; simulations keep the equipment off under "Simulation Only" and "Equipment is not operational" signs. We print both signs into the station and build a skin model or video loop for the workflow.

Organizer rule

Lasers stay enclosed

Lasers run only inside a suitable enclosed space with eye protection; CO2 demos need clear plastic boxes closed on all sides and top with smoke evacuators, and the Academy inspects laser booths at random. We build the enclosure and evacuator into the counter.

Organizer rule

Investigational devices carry a federal-law sign

Unapproved devices appear only under an effective IDE or a pending 510(k), with no safety, effectiveness or comparative claims, a prominent investigational-use sign and no order taking. We give them a separate, clearly signed panel with research documentation on hand.

Organizer rule

Linear 8'3", islands 20 feet

Inside a linear booth, displays stay under 4 feet across the first 5 feet from the aisle and under 8 feet 3 inches behind that, canopies banned; islands top out at 20 feet with no multi-level exhibits, and only islands may hang signs. We draw to these limits before you approve the design.

Organizer rule

Your own staff hold the camera

Exhibitors may photograph or film only inside their own space, using full-time staff or the AAD official photographer, and outside photographers are refused at the door. We light the booth for phone-camera content your team can shoot during the show.

Popular booth sizes at AAD Annual Meeting

AAD sells linear booths in 10×10 units at $46 a square foot, a limited run of premium linear booths at $61, and islands from 20×20 with no multi-level exhibits. For a single laser or imaging platform we recommend a 10×20 linear with an enclosed demo cubicle; a 20×20 island adds a hanging sign, hall-light dimming and a seated consult table.

Pixee Medical at a medical technology congress

A focused, demo-first booth for augmented-reality surgical guidance, built so every visitor could try the technology while traffic kept moving.

Different specialty, same squeeze: Pixee Medical let every visitor try its surgical guidance without blocking traffic, which AAD lasers in cubicles 5 feet back also demand.

04 Designing for dermatology device, laser, imaging, skin care and pharmaceutical brands at AAD Annual Meeting

Four things we get right for AAD Annual Meeting exhibitors

Clean hospital ward with made beds, privacy curtain rails and wall-mounted medical equipment1

Box the laser, keep the beam visible

The Academy requires CO2 laser demos inside clear plastic boxes closed on every side, top included, with smoke evacuators, and colored cubicles for dye, KTP, diode, Nd:YAG, alexandrite and ruby systems. We build the enclosure into the counter, wire the evacuator and stock eye protection for every viewer.

2

Make Simulation Only impossible to miss

Devices that need a medical license cannot be demonstrated on live subjects at AAD, so simulations run with equipment off and posted signs reading "Simulation Only" and "Equipment is not operational". We print both into the station graphics at eye level and build a skin model or video loop so the workflow still shows.

3

Give pending 510(k) products their own wall

An unapproved device appears at AAD only under an effective IDE or a pending 510(k), with a prominent investigational-use sign, no safety or comparative claims and no order taking. We design a separate panel with that sign built in and a drawer for the research documentation registrants may ask to see.

4

Design for the noon rush

AAD keeps noon to 1 p.m. free of sessions on all three hall days, so the busiest hour lands at once. Demo areas must sit at least 5 feet in from the aisle, so we push stations back, leave a landing zone in front for the second row and plan staff breaks outside that hour.

Logistics for AAD Annual Meeting 2027, handled

Freeman is AAD's general service contractor and official drayage contractor, and Moscone runs a union floor for installation and dismantle. Freeman's advance warehouse takes crates up to 30 days before the meeting, direct shipments reach the dock from March 16, and installation runs March 15–18 with crates emptied and tagged by 2 p.m. and every booth finished by 5 p.m. on Thursday. Nothing comes down before 3 p.m. Sunday, March 21, on penalty of 10% of the booth fee; everything is packed by 5 p.m. Monday. As your exhibitor-appointed contractor we file the EAC notice and our insurance certificate by February 3, our project manager leads the vetted local crew, and your team walks over from the Marriott Marquis or Union Square.

Hall rules, drayage estimates and freight deadlines for this building are in our Moscone Center exhibitor guide.

Hall guide

Moscone's calendar lists the 2027 meeting in its North, South and West buildings, and the Academy puts the exhibit hall on the Lower Level of North. These are the areas on that floor that shape your booth.

Exhibit hall, Moscone North Lower Level

More than 300 companies across devices, pharmaceuticals, publishing and recruitment, open March 19–21 with an unopposed exhibit hour from noon to 1 p.m. each day.

Our advice: Islands may dim the hall lights above their own space at their expense, which helps screens and clinical photography read; we spec booth lighting that stays inside your footprint.

Exhibitor Product Theaters

Theater-style sessions in the hall during official exhibit hours, where exhibitors present research, product details and demonstrations to registered medical personnel.

Our advice: A theater slot pulls clinicians to your booth afterward, so we put a follow-up counter with the same approved visuals near your entrance.

Meeting Suites on the exhibit floor

Rentable suites in the exhibit hall are the only meeting space AAD offers at the convention center; other meetings need Academy approval and a nearby hotel.

Our advice: If a suite sells out, we build a closed consult room into a 20×30 or larger island so practice-owner talks stay private.

AAD Annual Meeting exhibitor questions

Questions exhibitors ask us before AAD Annual Meeting

How much does a booth at AAD 2027 cost?

Start from a 10×20 linear: a rental build runs $7,500 to $15,000, and a custom 20×20 island $50,000 to $120,000. AAD bills space separately at $46 a square foot, so the 10×20 footprint alone is $9,200. What moves our number here is the laser enclosure, smoke evacuation, demo screens and the weight of the device carts.

What is the deadline for island plans at AAD 2027?

February 3, 2027. Island construction plans go to the Academy that day, canopy designs to Moscone for fire review, hanging-sign blueprints with weights to Freeman and Moscone, and the EAC notice and certificate of insurance to the Academy. Requests for celebrity spokespeople or unusual booth activities share the date. We need your design approved in early January to file on time.

Can we rent a booth for the AAD Annual Meeting, and what does a rental include?

We rent the frame, fabric graphics, lighting, counters and storage, then add the pieces AAD rules call for: a demo cubicle sized to your laser, Simulation Only signs and an investigational panel if you need one. Freight, installation and dismantle sit on the same fixed proposal, and the rental returns to us after Monday, March 22.

Can we set up our own booth at Moscone Center?

Moscone runs a union floor, and AAD's prospectus routes booth labor through an exhibitor-appointed contractor, Freeman or the convention center. Unregistered staff need a work pass and proof of affiliation, and children under 16 are barred from the floor at all times. We act as your EAC, file the notice by February 3 and run the union crew ourselves.

Can we demonstrate lasers and energy devices at AAD?

Lasers run only inside an enclosed space with eye protection for operators and viewers; CO2 systems need fully closed clear boxes with smoke evacuators. Licensed-use devices never touch live subjects, so simulations stay powered off under posted signs. Cosmetics and over-the-counter skin care may be shown on live models. The Academy inspects laser booths at random during the show.

What does drayage cost at Moscone for AAD, and who pays it?

Freeman, AAD's official drayage contractor, bills you directly at its tariff in the exhibitor service manual. Until we have that tariff, we price from the figure in Purple's Moscone venue guide, roughly $180 for every 100 pounds with a 200-pound minimum. Laser platforms and imaging carts are heavy, so the proposal prices drayage from the weight of each crate before you sign.

Can we reuse our AAD booth at other dermatology shows?

The enclosures, counters and walls we build for AAD can travel to the ASLMS conference in Dallas, Plastic Surgery The Meeting or The Aesthetic MEET, each with new graphics and that show's own laser and height rules redrawn. Between shows the kit stays in our storage, and we refit the demo cubicle when your device lineup changes.

Which hall is the AAD 2027 exhibit hall in?

The Academy places the 2027 exhibit hall on the Lower Level of Moscone's North building; Moscone's own calendar lists the meeting across North, South and West. The Exhibitor Product Theaters, the AAD Resource Center at Booth 4725 and the rentable Meeting Suites all sit on that floor, so we plan sightlines and traffic for your assigned booth number.

Do you handle Freeman orders and the service manual for AAD?

We do. Freeman's service manual covers carpet, which AAD makes mandatory, electrical from facility electricians, rigging, storage by the cubic foot and catering through the exclusive food provider. We place each order before the discount date, list hanging points and weights for any sign, and keep your one-day supply of literature inside the booth as the fire rules require.

When is the AAD Annual Meeting 2027?

The 2027 AAD Annual Meeting runs Friday, March 19 to Tuesday, March 23, 2027, in San Francisco. The exhibit hall opens Friday through Sunday, March 19–21: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Exhibitors install March 15–18 and dismantle Sunday evening and Monday.

Where is the 2027 AAD Annual Meeting held?

At Moscone Center, 747 Howard Street in San Francisco, with the exhibit hall on the Lower Level of the North building. Moscone has no on-site parking; BART and Muni stop at Montgomery station for North and South. Rooms booked through the Academy's housing service close Wednesday, February 24, 2027.

How many people attend the AAD Annual Meeting?

The 2026 meeting in Denver drew 20,111 total registrants: 9,168 medical personnel, 2,782 non-medical personnel and 7,748 exhibitor personnel. The Academy counted more than 20,000 registrants and over 350 vendors in Orlando in 2025, and more than 19,800 people in San Diego in 2024.

Is the AAD Annual Meeting open to the public?

No. The Academy states its meetings are wholly owned by AAD and not public events. Exhibitor badges admit staff to the exhibit hall, the Opening Ceremony and the Plenary, while scientific sessions need full registration. Exhibitors may not bring outside photographers or videographers onto the floor, and no one under 16 is allowed in the hall at any time.

How do I get a booth at the AAD Annual Meeting?

Returning exhibitors pick space in Priority Points order at an onsite draw during the prior meeting. New exhibitors, or companies absent three years, submit an application plus company profile, Articles of Incorporation or W-9, product literature and FDA filing status, and hear back within 10 business days. The Academy keeps assigning space until February 19, 2027.

Before you sign with anyone

Five questions to ask any exhibit builder for AAD Annual Meeting:

  1. Is every fee on the proposal, including what the show contractor bills?
  2. Who builds the booth: your own shop or a subcontractor?
  3. Will your project manager be on the floor for install and dismantle?
  4. What exactly is in the rental, and what is billed by the show?
  5. Where does the booth go after the show, and what does storage cost?

Common situations

Already own a booth? We refresh the graphics, repair what is worn, ship it, install it and store it between shows. You keep the structure you paid for.

Exhibiting from outside the US? We are your team on the ground: freight to the advance warehouse, show-service orders, installation and storage, with one project manager answering your emails in your time zone.

Short on time? A rental with your graphics can be ready in two to three weeks. We tell you on the first call what is realistic for your date.
