01 Purple at MODEX 2028

Space Draw first, booth second: MODEX 2028 in Atlanta, from pick to live demo

We design MODEX booths where an AMR loop, a pick station or a sortation cell runs while a distribution manager times it. At the Georgia World Congress Center, in right-to-work Georgia, your staff can build beside our project manager, and we plan freight around MODEX's targeted move-in.

What makes MODEX different, and how we build for it

MODEX is the even-year half of MHI's show pair: ProMat fills Chicago in odd years, MODEX fills all three halls of the Georgia World Congress Center in even ones.Booth space is chosen in MHI's Space Draw, ranked by Loyalty Points, with Designated Area, Island Only and Last In, First Out booths marked on the floor plan. The 2028 brochure organizes Halls A, B and C by zone, from Automation & Robotics and Fulfillment, Workforce & Labor to the StartUp Pavilion in Hall A, and promises live equipment demonstrations, 200 educational sessions and three keynotes. Buyers here watch systems run, so the booth has to give a moving machine room to work.

Warehouse and distribution managers

A pick, sort or put-away cycle they can watch end to end, with rates per hour and the floor space it needs printed where they can photograph it.

Corporate and supply chain executives

A seated meeting away from conveyor noise, a clear total-cost story and a sense of who else in retail and consumer goods runs the system.

Manufacturing and industrial engineers

Close access to the controls, safety scanners and integration points, and an engineer at a layout table who can answer a throughput question with numbers.

Your team in Atlanta

Two shops behind your MODEX booth

For MODEX, we build in our own shop in Fishkill, NY, and at our Las Vegas hub, ship to the Georgia World Congress Center, and put our own project manager on the floor with vetted local labor for the install. A predictable 30–45-day turnaround, secure storage and a pre-show QA before MODEX.

At MODEX, your team walks into a booth that is lit and stocked. You just show up.

MODEX rules that shape your booth

Hanging signs from 600 square feet

MHI allows hanging signs only over booths of at least 600 square feet at MODEX 2028. We tell you before the Space Draw whether your target footprint qualifies and design the sign with the structure.

Organizer rule

Last In, First Out booths

LIFO booths sit in areas the contractor needs during set-up, so they move in last and out first with a shorter build window, and large exhibits are not permitted there. We keep running systems out of LIFO space.

Organizer rule

Designated Area booths stay as drawn

During the Space Draw, booths in the Designated Area must be taken as configured, and two booths picked there may not adjoin; reconfiguring requires space outside it and phone participation. We match your system to booths that fit as drawn.

Organizer rule

Island Only means four open sides

Booths marked Island Only on the MODEX 2028 floor plan are sold only as islands open on all four sides. We design those with four working faces instead of a backwall.

Organizer rule

Targeted move-in and move-out

MODEX assigns move-in and move-out times, published in the exhibitor manual about five months before the show. We build the freight and labor plan around your slot so the machine and the booth arrive in order.

Popular booth sizes at MODEX

MODEX sells space by the square foot, and only booths of 600 square feet or more may carry a hanging sign. Running AMRs, conveyors or storage systems need 20×30 to 40×40 islands; software and component suppliers do well in a 10×20 or 20×20. We size from the motion envelope outward.

KLEEMANN booth by Purple Exhibits, one of our case studies for MODEX planning

Case study · KLEEMANN

KLEEMANN at an industrial technology exhibition

A global elevator manufacturer’s interactive booth: real product showcases, digital simulations and a floor plan that guided visitors from the first step to the last.

KLEEMANN needed visitors to follow heavy equipment from first step to last through simulations and a guided layout, exactly what a running warehouse system asks of a MODEX booth.

“Purple Exhibits made us look good. The booth was one of the nicest displays in our section of the convention center and generated a lot of positive comments from both customers and industry peers. Their attention to detail, professionalism, and willingness to go above and beyond made a huge difference.”

04 Designing for material handling, warehouse automation, robotics and supply chain software brands at MODEX

Four things we get right for MODEX exhibitors

Aerial view of a logistics center with trailers backed into the loading docks1

Pick your booth like a layout

MODEX space is chosen during the December 8–11, 2026 Space Draw, in Loyalty Points order. We help you list up to six choices and the comments MHI reads, such as an island request or a 20-foot backwall, so a proxy pick still lands a booth your system fits.

Spacious warehouse interior with storage racks, pallets and equipment under bright lights2

Avoid the LIFO squeeze

Booths marked Last In, First Out sit in areas the contractor needs during set-up, so they get a shorter window to build and tear down, and large exhibits are not allowed there. For a running system we steer you away from LIFO space or design a kit that builds in hours.

Automated warehouse system with a robotic arm handling blue storage crates3

600 square feet buys the sky

MHI allows hanging signs only over booths of at least 600 square feet. If your system needs to be found from across Hall B or C, we compare a 20×30 with a sign against a 20×20 with a taller backwall before you lease.

Forklift moving goods between tall shelving in an industrial warehouse4

Show the cycle, park the fleet

A distribution buyer at MODEX wants to see one tote travel from induction to dispatch. We set one AMR or conveyor loop running in view, a charging and spares bay hidden behind a wall, and a rate board that updates as the demo runs.

Hall A

Sustainability & Risk Management; Transportation, Distribution & Warehousing; and the StartUp Pavilion for early-stage supply chain companies.

Our advice Transportation and warehousing equipment can be heavy, so we plan freight early, and we keep StartUp Pavilion booths light enough to hand-carry.

B

Hall B

Automation & Robotics; Fulfillment, Workforce & Labor; Manufacturing, Planning & Sourcing; and Emerging Supply Chain Technology.

Our advice The densest field of running robots: we mark visitor edges and keep your demo cycle short enough to finish while people walk past.

Hall C

Data Capture, Analytics & Information Management, plus more Automation & Robotics and Fulfillment space; Building C holds the 2020 Exhibit Hall BC connector.

Our advice Data capture and analytics booths sell on screens; we build seated demo bars and keep screen brightness high enough to read from the aisle.

Logistics for MODEX 2028, handled

MODEX is a targeted move-in and move-out show: MHI posts set-up and dismantle times in the exhibitor manual about five months before the show, so trucks unload at assigned times. The GWCC sits in a right-to-work state, which means employees on your payroll can put the booth together beside our project manager, while drayage and utilities still go through the official contractor; Purple plans GWCC material handling near $150 per hundredweight. Halls A, B and C span the original building and the Exhibit Hall BC connector opened in 2020, so we confirm the hall and dock for your booth before crating a conveyor. MODEX runs free shuttles from onPeak block hotels, and the Omni sits across from the campus.

MODEX exhibitors can find this building's hall rules, drayage estimates and freight deadlines in our Georgia World Congress Center exhibitor guide.

What Purple handles

  • Space Draw booth choices and lease comments
  • Layouts that keep hanging signs to booths of 600 square feet or more
  • Motion envelopes and visitor edges for AMRs and conveyors
  • Targeted move-in slot, freight and drayage paperwork
  • Electrical, air and data orders through the exhibitor manual
  • Install and dismantle led by our project manager

MODEX exhibitor questions

Questions exhibitors ask us before MODEX

How much does a booth at MODEX 2028 cost?

Space runs $39 per square foot for MHI members and $49 for non-members, less $2 per square foot for Space Draw participants or prior MHI exhibitors, so with that discount a 20×30 island costs $22,200 to $28,200 in space. A custom 20×30 from us runs $75,000 to $175,000; a running conveyor or AMR fleet moves it most.

What is the deadline for the MODEX 2028 Space Draw?

Your signed lease and 10% deposit must reach MHI by 5 p.m. ET on Friday, November 20, 2026. MHI emails the ranking by December 3, and booth picks run December 8–11. Our own milestone is your design approval in late January 2028.

Can we rent a booth for MODEX?

We rent full MODEX booths: modular walls with your printed fabric, lighting, rate boards and counters, plus shipping, the build and teardown on one fixed quote. A 20×20 island rental runs $16,000 to $40,000, which leaves budget for the equipment you bring.

Can our own staff set up our booth at the Georgia World Congress Center?

Georgia's right-to-work rules let your full-time employees build the booth, and we pair them with our project manager. Drayage and utilities still go through the official contractor, and MODEX's targeted move-in sets when your truck may unload.

Can we have a hanging sign at MODEX?

Only over booths of at least 600 square feet, per MHI's Space Draw FAQ. That rules out a 20×20; a 20×30 qualifies. We design the sign with the structure so it reads above Halls A, B and C, and file the order once the 2028 display rules are out.

What does drayage cost at MODEX in Atlanta?

Material handling at the GWCC is billed by weight through the official contractor; Purple works with roughly $150 per hundredweight for 2026 and 2027 Atlanta shows. MODEX's 2028 tariff is not confirmed yet; your proposal carries our crate-by-crate estimate, and we ship to the targeted schedule.

Which hall will our MODEX booth be in?

It depends on your Space Draw pick. The 2028 brochure places the StartUp Pavilion and Transportation, Distribution & Warehousing in Hall A, Automation & Robotics and Emerging Supply Chain Technology in Hall B, and Data Capture, Analytics & Information Management in Hall C.

Can we reuse our MODEX booth at ProMat and other shows?

That is how we design it: the same modules fit ProMat 2027 in Chicago, MODEX 2028 in Atlanta and Automate, with new graphics per show. Between shows we store the booth and ship it to the next MHI floor.

Do you handle the exhibitor manual orders for MODEX?

Once MHI posts the 2028 exhibitor manual, about five months before the show, we file the contractor, electrical, compressed air and internet orders, request your targeted move-in slot and send you a copy of each form.

When is MODEX 2028?

MODEX 2028 runs Monday, April 3 to Wednesday, April 5, 2028, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. MHI also launches MODEX West at the Las Vegas Convention Center on October 18–20, 2028.

How many people attend MODEX?

MHI counted 50,000 registered visitors from every U.S. state and 132 countries at MODEX 2026, with 1,057 exhibitors on 630,000 net square feet. MHI reported 48,733 registrants and 1,200 exhibitors for MODEX 2024.

Who can exhibit at MODEX?

MHI, the material handling, logistics and supply chain association, runs MODEX. Exhibitors must be member-eligible but may exhibit as members or non-members; members pay $39 per square foot against $49, and Space Draw order follows MHI's Loyalty Point Program.

How do we get a booth at MODEX 2028?

Submit the electronic lease at modexshow.com/lease with a 10% deposit by 5 p.m. ET on November 20, 2026, choosing phone or proxy participation, to join the Space Draw. After the draw, MHI's Exhibitions Team sells what remains on the floor plan.

Before you sign for MODEX

Ask any MODEX exhibit builder these five questions:

  1. Is each fee on the proposal, even the ones the show contractor bills?
  2. Who actually builds it for MODEX: your shop or a subcontractor?
  3. Does your project manager stay on the floor through install and dismantle in Atlanta?
  4. What exactly is in the rental, and what does MODEX bill?
  5. Where does the booth go after MODEX, and what does storage cost?

Common situations

Already own a booth? We refresh the graphics, repair what is worn, ship it to the Georgia World Congress Center, install it and store it between shows. You keep the structure you paid for and bring it to MODEX.

Exhibiting from outside the US? We are your team on the ground in Atlanta: freight to the advance warehouse, show-service orders, installation and storage, with one project manager answering your emails in your time zone.

Short on time? Rentals with your graphics can be ready in two to three weeks. We say on the first call what is realistic for your show date.
