Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center Exhibitor Guide

Also known as Gaylord Pacific; before it opened, the Chula Vista Bayfront resort hotel and convention center

San Diego Bay's newest show floor is not downtown. It is a 140,049 sq ft exhibit hall with a 34 ft ceiling on the Chula Vista Bayfront, 7 miles south, under the same roof as 1,600 hotel rooms. Most organizers list it as "San Diego", so check the address, the warehouse and the drive before you book crews.

Quick answers

What exhibitors ask about Gaylord Pacific

Does Gaylord Pacific have a real exhibit hall?Yes, on Level 1.

The California Ballroom & Exhibit Hall is 140,049 sq ft, 513 by 273 ft, with a 34 ft ceiling. It splits into eight sections, so a small expo can take one section and a big one the whole hall.

Is it in San Diego? No, Chula Vista.

The resort is at 1000 H Street on the Chula Vista Bayfront, about 7 miles south of downtown San Diego and the San Diego Convention Center. Many show sites just say "San Diego".

Is show labor union?Check your show kit.

California is not a right-to-work state, but the venue publishes no labor rules of its own. Who may set up your booth is set by each show's general contractor, such as Shepard at AMCP Nexus 2026.

Who supplies power and internet? The resort, in-house.

At AMCP Nexus 2026, power and internet were ordered from Gaylord Pacific through its exhibitor portal, rigging from Encore and AV from Freeman. Catering is exclusive to the resort.

Gaylord Pacific vs the San Diego Convention Center: what changes for exhibitors

Both buildings sit on San Diego Bay, but they work very differently. The convention center is a public hall downtown with its own union agreement and hotels a walk away. Gaylord Pacific is a resort 7 miles south where the hall, the hotel, power and catering all belong to one property.

Gaylord Pacific is its own show hotel: 1,600 rooms in a 22-story tower joined to the meeting space. Downtown San Diego and its hotels are about 7 miles north, roughly a 15-minute drive without traffic, so teams staying downtown need a car or a ride each day.

Official floor plans from the organizers of shows at Gaylord Pacific. Every show draws its own layout, aisles and booth numbers, so use these to see how a real show fills the hall, then work from your own show's plan. The resort opened in 2025, so only one organizer has a public plan so far.

Labor & rules

Gaylord Pacific labor rules: what your team can do itself

California is not a right-to-work state. Gaylord Pacific publishes no labor rules of its own, and it has hosted shows only since 2025, so the general contractor's kit is the only real answer to "can my staff build this?". The rules below come from the AMCP Nexus 2026 exhibitor materials; treat them as one show's example.

✓Allowed at AMCP Nexus 2026

  • Hiring your own installation company (EAC), if it registers with Shepard
  • EAC insurance of $1M per occurrence and $2M aggregate
  • Booths built to the IAEE display guidelines
  • Free Wi-Fi in the hall from the organizer

●Exclusives and contractors

  • Shepard: material handling and general services
  • Gaylord Pacific: power, internet and dedicated lines, ordered on its exhibitor portal
  • Encore: rigging
  • Freeman: audio-visual
  • Gaylord Pacific catering: all food and beverage

!Limits to plan for

  • Rigging only for 20 × 20 islands or larger, with organizer approval
  • No show-site deliveries before the first move-in day
  • The insurance certificate must name the organizer, the venue, Shepard, Marriott International and RIDA Chula Vista, LLC
  • Self-setup limits and union jurisdictions: check your show kit

How these planning numbers work

  • Shipping weight: about 6 lbs per sq ft for a rental booth, 9 for custom or hybrid, 12 for fully custom, crated, with graphics and furniture.
  • Drayage: $176 per 100 lbs (cwt), Purple's San Diego planning rate, with a 200 lb minimum. Loose or pad-wrapped freight adds 30%.
  • I&D labor hours: install plus dismantle, 0.06–0.10 person-hours per sq ft for rental, 0.08–0.14 for custom or hybrid, 0.12–0.20 for fully custom.
  • Labor rate: $138–$207 per person-hour, straight time, a planning range from published 2026 show labor rates elsewhere. No Gaylord Pacific rate is published, and overtime costs more.
  • Own staff: only if this venue's rules and your show kit let your own full-time staff set up (see the labor section above). Then, I&D labor drops to $0 here.
  • Not included: booth space, the exhibit itself, freight to San Diego, power and internet orders, rigging, travel and tax.

At Gaylord Pacific: power and internet come from the resort, rigging from Encore, and every booth on Level 2 or 4 rides an elevator whose size is not published. No labor rate or self-setup rule is published for the venue, so the estimate keeps labor in unless your kit says otherwise.

NRMCA ConcreteWorks comes in October 2028. AMCP Nexus 2026 holds its expo in the California Ballroom on October 27–28, 2026.

The building

Twenty years of bayfront planning, then a 2025 opening

The resort is the anchor of the Chula Vista Bayfront plan, a public-private deal between the Port of San Diego, the City of Chula Vista and developer RIDA. The convention center belongs to a joint authority of the Port and the City.

Insider tips

Gaylord Pacific exhibitor tips: what experienced teams do

Address

Write Chula Vista on the bill of lading

Organizers often list the show as "San Diego". The building is at 1000 H Street, Chula Vista, 7 miles south of the convention center, so give carriers and crews the street address.

Freight

Never ship early to the resort

Direct show-site shipments were accepted only from move-in day at AMCP Nexus 2026, and earlier ones could be refused. Use the advance warehouse in your kit.

Services

Order power from the resort, not the decorator

Power, internet and dedicated lines come from Gaylord Pacific through its exhibitor portal. The decorator's order forms do not cover them, so budget both.

Height

Know your room before you go tall

The exhibit hall has a 34 ft ceiling, but La Perla is 20 ft 6 in and the pre-function areas are 19 ft. A tower that fits the hall may not fit a foyer or a small ballroom.

Rigging

Hanging signs need a big island

At AMCP Nexus 2026, Encore rigging was allowed only for 20 × 20 islands or larger, with organizer approval. Smaller booths should plan a floor-standing header instead.

Insurance

Name five parties on the COI

EAC certificates at AMCP Nexus 2026 had to name the organizer, the venue, Shepard, Marriott International and RIDA Chula Vista, LLC. Ask your I&D company for it early.
