2014 to Hurricane Laura
Golden Nugget Lake Charles opens as a $700 million, 1.3 million sq ft resort, the fifth Golden Nugget property and the closest to Texas, with 740 rooms, an 18-hole golf course, a marina and an 18,000 sq ft ballroom.
Hurricane Laura makes a direct hit on Lake Charles, tearing the roof off part of the casino and causing water damage across the property. The resort closes briefly and reopens within weeks; six weeks later, Hurricane Delta causes minimal additional damage.
The resort remains Lake Charles' largest meeting venue and southwest Louisiana's main draw for cross-border business from Texas.
