Syracuse is the crossroads of the state. The Thruway and Interstate 81 meet here, which is why Central New York's regional shows, the state's association meetings and a growing run of semiconductor and technology events choose the Oncenter: it is within four hours of every part of New York and most of Ontario. The complex is three buildings on one block, run by one operator, with a garage attached.

The complex
Convention center, arena and theaters
The Oncenter is three buildings: the Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center, the Upstate Medical University Arena at the Onondaga County War Memorial, and the John H. Mulroy Civic Center theaters. They connect on one block with a 1,000-car garage.

History
Salt City
Syracuse boiled salt from Onondaga Lake brine for a century, then built the canal that carried it. The city has been a crossroads ever since, which is why its convention business exists.
Salt works on Onondaga Lake supply most of the country's salt; the Erie Canal arrives in 1825 and Syracuse becomes the Salt City. Syracuse University opens on the hill in 1870.
The Onondaga County War Memorial opens as an arena and memorial to the county's war dead. The Syracuse Nationals of the NBA win the 1955 championship here before becoming the Philadelphia 76ers.
The John H. Mulroy Civic Center opens next door with three theaters, including the Crouse-Hinds, one of the largest stages in Upstate New York.
The Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center opens with 99,000 square feet of rentable space and an attached garage, named for the county executive who championed it, completing the Oncenter complex.
The Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League move into the War Memorial, later renamed the Upstate Medical University Arena.
Micron's planned chip fabrication complex in nearby Clay brings semiconductor, construction and workforce events to the Oncenter, alongside the region's home, sports and outdoor shows and the state fair's satellite events.

Exhibit labor follows the show contractor; exhibitors may typically set up their own booths within show limits; the show kit sets the exact allowance. Arena rigging and stage work are through the house crew.

Syracuse averages more than 120 inches a year. Ship a day early from November to March; the Thruway and I-81 both close in lake-effect bands.

Two venues, one city
Some Central New York shows use the state fairgrounds' Expo Center in Geddes instead of the Oncenter. Confirm the building before you ship.

Getting there and staying
- By car: Interstate 81 to downtown exits, the Thruway at exit 36; 3.5 hours from Fishkill, 4 from Midtown, 1.5 from Rochester.
- Airport: Syracuse Hancock International is 15 minutes.
- By train: Amtrak to the William F. Walsh Regional Transportation Center, a ten-minute cab.
- Freight: docks on the south side; windows scheduled by the show.
- Parking: the attached 1,000-car garage.

Trade and consumer shows use the Pirro Convention Center's exhibit hall; large public shows and concerts use the War Memorial arena. Several Central New York shows use the state fairgrounds instead, so confirm before shipping.
