The Kentucky International Convention Center opened in 1977 and spent most of its life as a fairly conventional downtown facility until a two-year, $207 million renovation completed in 2018 rebuilt the west end entirely in glass, growing exhibit space from 146,000 to 200,125 sq ft and adding a 40,000 sq ft column-free ballroom with color-changing LED walls. Kentucky became the nation's 27th right-to-work state in January 2017, and the KICC's own exhibitor services rules reflect that: registered exhibitors may perform their own booth setup and teardown subject to the center's safety policies, though a show that has contracted its own official decorator may bind exhibitors to that contractor's terms instead. The labor map
Who sets up my booth?
Kentucky has been a right-to-work state since January 2017, and the KICC's own exhibitor services rules allow registered exhibitors to perform all setup and teardown of their booth, displays and product materials themselves, subject to the center's safety policies. Shows that have contracted an official decorator may bind exhibitors to that contractor's specific terms instead, so always confirm with the show's service manual.

The downtown calendar runs on regional medical and healthcare conferences, technology and professional association shows, and consumer expos; confirm current dates with the venue. Kentucky's largest shows, led by the National Farm Machinery Show, run at the Kentucky Exposition Center instead.
