Why this page exists
Borgata changed Atlantic City's meetings business the day it opened in 2003, and it has stayed the property most out-of-state planners think of first. The scale is real: the largest hotel in the state, a 30,000 sq ft ballroom, a nine-room conference center, and an Event Center that seats 2,400. For exhibitors that means real capacity, but every square foot is carpet and hotel elevators, not a loading dock built for trucks.

The building
The ballroom and conference complex
Borgata's event space spreads across the ground floor and the 32nd floor of the MGM Tower, connected by dedicated freight elevators separate from guest traffic.

History
The Tunnel Project
Borgata exists because of a $330 million tunnel that survived a lawsuit from a rival casino owner and outlived the resort it was built to serve.
Steve Wynn plans Le Jardin, a new resort in the Marina District, and proposes a 2.5-mile tunnel connecting the Atlantic City Expressway directly to it: the Atlantic City–Brigantine Connector. Donald Trump sues, calling it a taxpayer-funded "driveway" to a competitor.
The Tunnel Project is completed and opens despite the litigation, even after Le Jardin itself is cancelled. The connector becomes the main road into the Marina District.
Borgata opens on July 2 at 11:45 p.m., a joint venture between MGM Mirage and Boyd Gaming, with a facade of reflective gold glass that makes the tower visible for miles. It is Atlantic City's first entirely new resort in thirteen years.
A $200 million expansion adds retail and the largest poker room in Atlantic City; The Water Club, a second hotel tower, opens in 2008.
MGM Mirage sells its stake in a 2010 regulatory settlement, then buys back in after a 2014 reversal; in 2016 MGM agrees to purchase Boyd's remaining 50 percent for $900 million, taking full ownership.
Borgata remains Atlantic City's top-grossing casino and its default answer for meetings that need scale: the largest hotel in the state, with a ballroom and conference complex that keeps competing directly with Harrah's next door.

Fit or split
Everything to the ballroom or the Overlook rides a dedicated service elevator. Purple builds Borgata crates to the car dimensions in advance.
Contractor rates
Material handling billed by weight through the show contractor; plan about $150 per hundredweight.
Hotel exclusives
Electrical, rigging, internet, audiovisual and catering through the hotel or its providers.
New Jersey fire code
Flame certificates for all fabrics and carpet, egress per the diagram, no open flame.
The Brigantine Connector
Most freight and guest traffic uses the Atlantic City–Brigantine Connector rather than Boardwalk streets; faster access, easier truck routing.

Getting there and staying
- Airport: Atlantic City International is about 20 minutes; Philadelphia is about 80.
- By road: the Atlantic City–Brigantine Connector runs directly from the Expressway to the Marina District.
- Freight: dedicated service docks and elevators, separate from casino and guest traffic.
- Crew: Purple's crews come down from Fishkill the same day.
- Rooms: 2,798 rooms on property carry most blocks; The Water Club is the second tower.

How big is the ballroom?

Does every crate go up an elevator?
Yes. Both the ballroom and the 32nd-floor Overlook are reached by dedicated service elevators, separate from guest cars. Confirm the car dimensions before building anything large.

How far is Harrah's?
