History
1906 to a $1.3 billion redevelopment
The Denver Livestock Exchange hosts its first "official" Western Livestock Show under a circus big top tent, the origin of what becomes the National Western Stock Show.
New facilities arrive in waves: the Hall of Education, Beef Palace and National Western Club in 1973, the Expo Hall and Stadium Hall in 1991, and the Events Center, paddock and Horse Barn in 1995.
A $1.3 billion redevelopment adds 2.2 million square feet of indoor and outdoor space. Groundbreaking on the 115,000 sq ft Legacy Building happens in January 2023, and it opens to the public just under three years later. The Sue Anschutz-Rogers Livestock Center and the 527,000 sq ft Equestrian Center round out the new campus.
The National Western Stock Show still opens with a kickoff parade past Denver's Union Station, downtown, before the action moves to the stock-show grounds.
