Why this page exists

The Ocean Center is the Florida venue for shows that bring vehicles: motorcycles during Bike Week and Biketoberfest, race cars around the Speedway calendar, boats and RVs the rest of the year. A 20 by 16 foot drive-in door, six docks and a paved outdoor lot make it the easiest place in the state to get a machine onto the floor.

This guide covers the hall and the arena, the county rules, a travel planner that includes the Speedway, and a calendar that follows the engines. Purple ships here from Fishkill.

History

Forty years on the beach

1985

Volusia County opens the Ocean Center on October 5 with 60,000 sq ft of exhibit space and an arena. Amy Grant plays the first concert two days early; John Denver plays the grand opening to 7,368 people.

1990s

Circuses, monster trucks, Miss Teen USA and WWE share the arena with trade shows and graduations.

2009

A $76 million expansion doubles the building to 205,000 sq ft, adds the 94,695 sq ft exhibit hall with its drive-in door, and shifts the center from concerts toward conventions and sports.

2010s

An ECHO grant funds the new entrance lobby and Cultural Information Center with a changing mural facing Atlantic Avenue.

2025

The Ocean Center marks forty years and $40 million in reinvestment; the Sunshine Expo and the motorcycle rallies remain its anchor weeks.

Rules of the floor

Labor, exclusives and vehicle rules

Labor

Non-union, county-run

Full-time staff may set up with hand tools; outside labor through the contractor or Purple as EAC.
